Miami International Airport and American Express Open Centurion Lounge in MIA

Miami International Airport and American Express celebrated the grand opening of The Centurion Lounge - the company's first location in the Southeast U.S. and only the fifth in the country. The new 8,000-square-foot lounge near Gate D-12 in MIA's North Terminal, exclusive to American Express Card Members and a key complimentary benefit for Platinum Card Members, features the following amenities: World-class food from local James Beard award-winning Chef Michelle Bernstein Beverages from renowned Mixologist Jim Meehan Spa treatments from exhale(r) spa, including massages and manicures Dedicated work spaces with high-speed wifi and plenty of power outlets Cozy semi-private nooks Soundproof kids play area. The new Centurion Lounge is a welcome addition at MIA, both as a passenger amenity and as an employer of local residents. The Centurion Lounge in MIA also includes several unique features that pay homage to the city's reputation for design, most notably a floor-to-ceiling textural wall resembling a wave that gives a nod to the city's coastal vibe. American Express reached an agreement with Starwood Hotels to introduce a new payment card. The card will provide rewards for travelers who use the hotel chain.

American Express' President Ed Gilligan Dies

American Express announced that the company's president, Ed Gilligan, died suddenly on May 29, 2015 after falling ill while flying on a corporate plane to New York. Gilligan, 55, was returning from a business trip. Gilligan began working at the New York credit card issuer and global payments company 35 years ago as an intern. He was named president of the company in 2013 and reported to Chenault. In his time at the company, Gilligan worked on just about every area of American Express's business, including commercial card, small business, merchant services, travel and, most recently, digital partnerships and payments.
