The company operates through three segments: Passive Components, Kyocera Electronic Devices (KED Resale), and Interconnect. The Passive Components segment primarily offers surface mount and leaded ceramic capacitors, RF thick and thin film components, surface mount and leaded tantalum capacitors, surface mount and leaded film capacitors, ceramic and film power capacitors, super capacitors, EMI filters, thick and thin film packages of multiple passive integrated components, varistors, thermistors, inductors, and resistive products. This segments product enables its customers to store, filter, or regulate electric energy in electronic devices. The KED Resale segment distributes and sells ceramic capacitors, frequency control devices, SAW devices, sensor products, RF modules, actuators, acoustic devices, and connectors produced by Kyocera Corporation of Japan. The Interconnect segment manufactures and resells electronic connectors and interconnect systems for use in various industries. The company markets its products through its direct sales force and independent manufacturers’ representatives to multi-national original equipment manufacturers, independent electronic component distributors, and electronic manufacturing service providers. It serves various industries, such as telecommunications, information technology hardware, automotive electronics, medical devices and instrumentation, industrial instrumentation, transportation, energy harvesting, defense and aerospace electronic systems, and consumer electronics industries. The company was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. AVX Corporation is a subsidiary of Kyocera Corporation.

AVX Releases Accu-P Series Medical Grade Thin Film Chip Capacitors for Medical RF Signal & Power Applications

AVX Corporation has released a new series of thin film chip capacitors specifically designed to meet the demanding performance specifications for implantable medical devices. Delivering extremely tight capacitive tolerances, exceptionally repeatable performance, and remarkably low ESR and high Q at high frequencies including VHF, UHF, and RF bands AVX's new Accu-P® MP Series capacitors also exhibit high stability with respect to temperature, time, frequency, and voltage variation. Based on well-established thin film technology and materials, and subjected to on-line process control procedures, in addition to accelerated life, damp, and heat testing and final quality inspections for capacitance, proof voltage, IR and breakdown voltage distribution, temperature coefficient, solderability, and dimensional, mechanical, and temperature stability, Accu-P MP Series capacitors are ideal for use in medical RF signal and power applications that require extremely high accuracy, such as embedded medical systems and implantable medical devices. Accu-P MP Series medical grade capacitors are currently available in three standard case sizes (0201, 0402, and 0603), five rated voltages (10V, 16V, 25V, 50V, and 100V), two dielectric temperature coefficients (0±30ppm/°C and 0±60ppm/°C), and with capacitive tolerances spanning ±0.01pF to ±5%. Rated for use in operating temperatures spanning -55°C to +125°C, the series is also available with tin/lead (Sn/Pb) terminations or RoHS compliant and lead-free compatible 100% tin terminations. Designed for soldering onto flexible or alumina circuit boards, Accu-P MP Series capacitors can withstand the time and temperature profiles used in both wave and reflow soldering methods.

AVX Corporation Releases COTS+ Polymer Tantalum Capacitor Series for Critical Military Systems

AVX Corporation has released a new COTS+ version of its TCR Professional Series polymer tantalum chip capacitors. Designed for use in critical military systems, the new TCB Series COTS+ polymer tantalum capacitors feature conductive polymer electrodes, which enable extremely low ESR and reduce the potential for ignition failure. Additionally, each batch undergoes lot conformance testing and additional reliability level verification in order to provide higher reliability than standard polymer tantalum capacitors. Life tested to 0.1% per 1,000 hours with a 90% confidence level, designed to withstand biased humidity testing at 85°C and 80% of rated humidity for 120 hours, and rated for operating temperatures as high as 105°C, TCB Series capacitors are ideal for: AC/DC power supplies, DC/DC converters, filtering, decoupling, timing circuits, and pulsing circuits. Currently available in a single case size (AVX Code: D, EIA Code: 2917, EIA Metric: 7343-31), two voltage ratings (10V and 16V), two capacitances (47µF and 68µF), and a single DCL (0.1CV), TCB Series capacitors feature a ±20% capacitance tolerance, are available with two termination finishes (Sn/Pb and 100% tin), and are rated for operating temperatures spanning -55°C to +105°C. TCB Series capacitors rated for 20–63V and 0.47–100µF are currently in development and, upon release, will introduce three new case sizes and a 0.05CV DCL option available on certain codes.

AVX Corp Releases New Tantalum Polymer Capacitors

AVX Corporation has released a new series of tantalum polymer capacitors designed to provide small, high energy, low profile solutions for demanding solid-state drive (SSD) applications. Exhibiting low ESR and the high energy per volume (Joules/cc) of any comparable SMT capacitor currently available on the market, the new J-CAP Series solid tantalum electrolytic chip capacitors feature conductive polymer electrodes, which exhibit a benign failure mode under recommended use conditions, and undertab terminations, which enable high volumetric efficiency in small, low profile case sizes and, subsequently, close positioning for efficient, high density PCB layouts. Combined, these attributes reduce both cost and footprint in multilevel cell (MLC), single-level cell (SLC), enterprise flash drive (EFD), and PCI Express (PCIe) SSDs, in addition to memory cards, battery-powered portable electronic equipment, industrial alarms, smart power meters, and mobile devices, such as cell phones, tablets, and wearable electronics. Featuring capacitance values spanning 4.7µF to 1,500 µF and a ±20% capacitance tolerance, J-CAP Series polymer capacitors are rated for operating temperatures spanning -55°C to +105°C, and are currently available with four voltage ratings: 6.3, 16, 25, and 35V; however, a fifth (50V) is currently in development. Recommended derating for parts rated for =10V to 16V and operating at 85°C, as well as those rated for =10V operating at 105°C, is 90%. Recommended derating for parts rated for 16V to =20V operating at 105°C, as well as those rated for =20V operating at 85°C, is 80%. The series is also currently available in four case sizes, the EIA Metric and AVX code for which follow: 3528-10 (L), 3528-12 (T), 7343-15 (X), and 7361-20 (4). A fifth, 7361-15 (3), is currently in development. Additionally, at present, the maximum energy per case size is as follows: L = 3.3mJ, T = 4.7mJ, X = 14.9mJ, and 4 = 32.7mJ; however, AVX is actively developing even higher maximum energy ratings for each case size. RoHS compliant and lead-free compatible, J-CAP Series capacitors feature pure tin-plated terminations and are shipped on 7" and 13" reels. Lead time for the series is 8–12 weeks.
