AVX Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and supplies various passive electronic components, interconnect devices, and related products for use in electronic devices to store, filter, or regulate electric energy. The company operates through three segments: Passive Components, Kyocera Electronic Devices (KED Resale), and Interconnect. The Passive Components segment offers surface mount and leaded ceramic capacitors, RF thick and thin film components, surface mount and leaded tantalum capacitors, surface mount and leaded film capacitors, ceramic and film power capacitors, super capacitors, bolt in and surface mount EMI filters, thick and thin film packages of multiple passive integrated components, varistors, thermistors, inductors, and resistive products. The KED Resale segment distributes and sells ceramic capacitors, frequency control devices, SAW devices, sensor products, RF modules, actuators, acoustic devices, and connectors produced by Kyocera. The Interconnect segment is involved in manufacturing and reselling electronic connectors and interconnect systems for use in various industries. The company markets its products through its direct sales force and independent manufacturers’ representatives to multi-national original equipment manufacturers, independent electronic component distributors, and electronic manufacturing service providers. It serves various industries, such as telecommunications, information technology hardware, automotive electronics, medical devices and instrumentation, industrial instrumentation, transportation, energy harvesting, defense and aerospace electronic systems, and consumer electronics industries worldwide. The company was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. AVX Corporation is a subsidiary of Kyocera Corporation.

AVX Corporation has introduced the lowest profile poke-home connector currently available on the market. Featuring its industry-proven 2mm dual beam, high spring-force, phosphor bronze poke-home contacts in a sleek 3.0mm pitch by 2.5mm high SMT package, the new horizontal 9296 Series connector is certified to UL 1977 and CAN/CSA C22.2 specifications, and accepts any combination of 20 “26AWG solid or stranded wires, providing quick, reliable, and cost effective wire-to-board termination in a broad range of harsh industrial, commercial, and medical applications. Rated for 300V, up to 8A, and operating temperatures spanning -40 °C to +130 °C, the new low-profile 9296 Series poke-home connectors, available in 1 “6 positions, meet harsh industrial performance standards and provide maximum mechanical stability and wire retention despite enabling simple strip-and-insert electrical connections and twist-and-pull wire extraction. Specific applications for which the series is ideally suited include: machine controls, such as motors, drives, solenoids, sensors, fans, and pumps; commercial building controls and security and fire sensors; medical equipment and sensors; smart grid meters, breakers, and panels; and SSL/LED bulbs, fixtures, signage, and streetlights. AVX Announces New 10,000-Hour Lifespan for its TCH Series Hermetically Sealed Tantalum Polymer Chip Capacitors

AVX Corporation has announced that its TCH Series hermetically sealed tantalum polymer chip capacitors for aerospace, defense, and other high-reliability applications are now rated for extended lifespans of up to 10,000 hours. Developed with the European Space Agency (ESA) to suit aerospace applications, TCH Series capacitors are hermetically sealed in ceramic cases filled with inert gasses to eliminate material and performance degradation resulting from exposure to high temperature, high humidity, and ambient atmosphere. They also feature low ESR conductive polymer electrodes and exhibit low derating capabilities, low leakage current (0.1CV), high ripple current, high capacitance (22µF to 680µF), and the higher voltages (10-100V) of any space-grade SMD tantalum polymer capacitor currently available on the market. Manufactured and screened using AVX's patented and extremely effective Q-Process, which ensures the removal of any components that may experience parametric shifts through customer processing or display instability through life testing, TCH Series capacitors exhibit an impressive FIT rate of 1% per 1,000 hours at 85ºC and rated voltage with 0.1O/V series impedance, making them ideal for use in a variety of high-reliability applications, including: aerospace, defense, pulse power, and power supplies. Rated for use in temperatures spanning -55ºC to +125ºC, and housed in large CTC-21D cases that weigh a slight 2.4g each – which enables a significant payload reduction when employed in aerospace power supplies – AVX's new TCH Series hermetically sealed tantalum polymer chip capacitors are currently available with seven capacitance values (22, 47, 100, 150, 220, 330, and 680µF), five voltages (10, 16, 25, 35, and 100V), and two terminations: J-lead and undertab. The dimensions for TCH Series capacitors with J-leads are: 11.5mm x 12.5mm x 6.15mm. Dimensions for TCH Series capacitors with undertab terminations are: 11.0mm x 12.5mm x 5.95mm. In addition, 33µF/75V and 680µF/16V TCH Series capacitors are currently available as engineering samples, and 16 more are actively under development. Components are supplied in either waffle or bulk packaging, and lead time for the series is 14 weeks.

AVX Corporation Introduces High CV Tantalum Capacitor

AVX Corporation has introduced high CV tantalum capacitor: the new 47µF 8V 1206-06 D case TACmicrochip®. Both thin and flat, the new 1206-06 TACmicrochip Series capacitors measure 3.4mm in length, 1.8mm in width, and feature a maximum height of 0.6mm, which is 0.15mm shorter than the existing 1206 V case TACmicrochip capacitor. Exhibiting high CV performance in an extremely thin package, in addition to all of the standard benefits of tantalum technology, including: inherent immunity to piezoelectric noise, and higher stability, reliability, and temperature performance than comparable MLCCs, the new 1206-06 D case TACmicrochip Series capacitors are ideal for use in audio and power amplifier modules, and as coupling/decoupling capacitors in handheld electronics. Capable of being embedded in 0.8mm-thick PCBs or designed into the latest generation of extremely thin handheld devices, the new 1206-06 TACmicrochip capacitors are especially well suited for employment in a wide variety of embedded electronics applications, including near field communication (NFC) systems and smart cards, such as: bank cards, SIM cards, identification cards, and access control cards. Manufactured using a tantalum wafer process to achieve the high levels of mechanical tolerance required for ultra miniature devices, TACmicrochip Series capacitors feature an enhanced internal construction that eliminates the space-consuming elements of conventional molded J-leaded tantalum capacitors, including the anode wire, lead frame, and the need for larger wall thicknesses. The new 1206-06 TACmicroship Series capacitors are supplied with lead-free, 100% tin terminations and are rated for use in temperatures spanning -55°C to +125°C. Lead time for the new TACmicrochip Series capacitors is 10-14 weeks.
