It operates through three segments: Water, Electric, and Contracted Services. The company purchases, produces, and distributes water in 75 communities in 10 counties in California; and distributes electricity to the City of Big Bear Lake and surrounding areas in San Bernardino County, California. As of February 25, 2015, it served approximately 258,000 water customers and 24,000 electric customers. The company also provides water and/or wastewater services, including the operation, maintenance, renewal, and replacement of the water and/or wastewater systems at various military installations. American States Water Company was founded in 1929 and is headquartered in San Dimas, California.

American States Water Company announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company's total operating revenues were $114.618 million compared with $115.641 million a year ago. Operating income was $30.53 million compared with $31.0 million a year ago. Income before income tax expense was $25.2 million compared with $25.6 million a year ago. Net income was $15.6 million or $0.41 per diluted share compared with $15.4 million or $0.39 per diluted share a year ago. For the six months, the company's total operating revenues were $215.55 million compared with $217.6 million a year ago. Operating income was $55.4 million compared with $5.8 million a year ago. Income before income tax expense was $45.22 million compared with $42.99 million a year ago. Net income was $27.8 million or $0.73 per diluted share compared with $26.4 million or $0.67 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities decreased by $27.9 million to $53 million. In regards to Golden State Water's capital expenditures, the company spent $32.5 million in company-funded capital expenditure during the six months ended June 30, 2015. The company expects to invest $85 million to $90 million in capital projects during 2015.

American States Water Company Announces Increase in Quarterly Dividend Payable on September 1, 2015

The Board of Directors of American States Water Company approved an increase in AWR’s third quarter cash dividend from $0.213 to $0.224 per share on the common shares of the Company. The annualized dividend rate after this increase is $0.896 per share, which represents a 5.2% increase from the current annualized dividend rate of $0.852 per share. Dividends on the common shares will be payable on September 1, 2015 to shareholders of record at the close of business on August 14, 2015.
