avx corp (AVX) Key Developments

AVX Corp. Extends Radial Leaded Transguard Automotive Series with New VR20 Varistors

AVX Corporation has extended the voltage and energy ratings of its radial leaded TransGuard ® Automotive Series with the addition of its new VR20 varistors, expanding both the number and type of applications for which the series is an ideal solution. Based on AVX's patented multilayer varistor technology, which provides bi-directional transient voltage protection in the on-state and EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state, VR20 varistors combine circuit protection and EMI/RFI attenuation functions in a single, high-reliability device, allowing designers to both reduce component count and save critical board space. Qualified to AEC-Q200, rated for -55°C to +125°C, and featuring a robust construction with conformal epoxy coating, VR20 TransGuard Automotive Series varistors are ideal for use in a variety of harsh automotive and industrial applications, including: inductive switching, DC motors, water and fuel pumps, and relays, amongst others.

AVX Corp. Introduces 0201 Tantalum Capacitor

AVX Corporation has introduced the smallest and lowest profile tantalum capacitor: the new sub-millimeter 0201 TACmicrochip®. Measuring only 0.6mm x 0.35mm x 0.35mm, the new 0201 E case TACmicrochip Series SMD tantalum capacitors deliver high CV (0.47¼F /6.3V) and low leakage (0.01CV) in an extremely small package, as well as exhibit all of the standard benefits of tantalum technology, including: inherent immunity to piezoelectric noise and higher stability, higher reliability, and higher temperature performance than comparable MLCCs. Electrically and mechanically robust, TACmicrochip Series capacitors provide long lifecycle performance ideal for use in miniature, wearable medical devices, audio and power amplifier modules, and as coupling/decoupling capacitors in handheld electronics. The new 0201 E case TACmicrochip capacitors extend the series' application range to include PCB embedded electronics applications, including near field communication (NFC) systems and smart cards, such as: bank cards, SIM cards, identification cards, and access control cards. Manufactured using a tantalum wafer process to achieve the high levels of mechanical tolerance required for ultra miniature devices, TACmicrochip Series capacitors feature an enhanced internal construction that eliminates the space-consuming elements of conventional molded J-leaded tantalum capacitors, including the anode wire, lead frame, and the need for larger wall thicknesses. The new 0201 TACmicroship Series capacitors are supplied with lead-free, 100% tin terminations and are rated for use in temperatures spanning -55°C to +125°C. Lead time for the new TACmicrochip Series capacitors is 10-14 weeks.

AVX Introduces New FV Series AC Film Capacitors

AVX Corporation has introduced the new FV Series AC film capacitors. Designed to provide Class X2 interference suppression, FV Series metallized polypropylene film capacitors are rated for 305Vrms and exhibit self-healing properties, high moisture resistance, high tolerance for over voltage stress, and excellent active and passive flame resistant capabilities, which makes them ideal for use as across-the-line capacitors, EMI filters, and spark-killer circuits in a host of power and RF applications. Non-inductively wound with metallized polypropylene film as both the dielectric and electrode, FV Series capacitors are encapsulated in a solvent and flame-resistant, self-extinguishing thermoplastic case sealed with epoxy resin, and bear several internationally-recognized safety approvals, including: UL/cUL, ENEC-VDE, KC, and CQC.
