Avago Introduces TOSA and ROSA Devices for 40G LR4 Lite Applications

Avago Technologies Limited has announced the availability of its new 40GE-LR4 Lite transmit optical subassembly, or TOSA, device and receive optical subassembly, or ROSA, device, the AFCP-CT4X10D and AFCP-CR4X10P. The devices are designed for use in a quad small form factor pluggable (QSFP) transceiver module providing long range 40GbE interconnects for routers and switches in the large scale data center network. The AFCP-CT4X10D TOSA device delivers four coarse wavelength division multiplexed (CWDM) wavelengths in the 1310nm window on a single optical output. The device integrates four high-reliability, high-performance uncooled 10Gbps directly modulated lasers (DML), an optical multiplexer to combine the laser wavelengths, and four PIN photo-detectors for back-facet power monitoring. The AFCP-CR4X10P ROSA device integrates an optical de-multiplexer to separate four incoming CWDM wavelengths using four high-reliability, high-performance 10Gbps PIN photo-detectors with integrated transimpedance amplifiers (TIA).

Avago Technologies Introduces New Micro-ITLA for Coherent Applications

Avago Technologies announced the availability of its new micro-integrated tunable laser assembly (Micro-ITLA) device, the AFCU-UITLAXX. The device is a high-performance, narrow-linewidth Micro-ITLA component designed for both the transmission and local oscillator laser in coherent dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. Based on Avago's proprietary external cavity laser (ECL) technology and proven indium phosphide (InP) and silica-on-silicon chip technology and packaging platform, the new Micro-ITLA device delivers a very narrow linewidth, low phase noise and superior frequency accuracy improving system performance by reducing signal to noise penalties. With no moving parts, the device achieves excellent operational shock and vibration resistance. Besides its narrow linewidth, the new Micro-ITLA device features a high optical output power, off-grid tuning capability, a gridless channel plan and in-operation wavelength and power adjustment capability suitable for applications in 100G PM-QPSK and 200G 16-QAM modulation formats. The device conforms to the OIF Micro-ITLA implementation agreement. With only one-third (1/3) the size and 25% less in power consumption compared to the industry standard large form factor ITLA, Avago's new Micro-ITLA device enables customers to migrate to smaller size optical linecard solutions or pluggable transceivers for next generation 100G and 200G/400G transmissionsystems. Product Highlights: Form Factor: 20 x 40 x 7 mm; variable Optical Power Tuning: +8 to +16 dBm; narrow Linewidth: <100kHz; user-defined Optical Frequency Channel Enabling 'Flex-grid' or 'Gridless' Architecture; fine Tuning Frequency Range: +/-6 GHz; and electrical Power Consumption: <3.5 W (16 dBm, 75 °C). Avago will be showcasing the new Micro-ITLA device in the Avago booth 1567 at the OFC 2015 exhibition in Los Angeles, California from March 24 to 26, 2015. Avago is ramping up production of its C-Band tunable AFCU-UITLAXX now with L-Band tuning capability becoming available in the second half of 2015. Avago is currently accepting orders for the new Micro-ITLA product.
