austal ltd (ASB) Key Developments

Austal Ltd. Receives LCS 6 Order for Post Shakedown Availability Support

Austal Ltd. has received $11.04 million cost-plus-award-fee order against the previously awarded basic ordering agreement N00024-15-G-2304 to provide engineering and management services for planning and design in support of the post shakedown availability for Littoral Combat Ship USS Jackson, or LCS 6. Under the contract, Austal USA will provide design, planning, and material support services for the vessel. Efforts will include program management, advance planning, engineering, design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling. Work will be performed at Austal's shipyard in Mobile, Alabama (77%) and Fairfax, Virginia (23%) and is expected to be completed by September 2016. Austal has a $3.5 billion contract from the U.S. Navy to build 10 Littoral Combat Ships and a separate $1.6 billion contract from the U.S Navy to build 10 103-meter Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSVs).

Austal Ltd Delivers Fifth Joint High Speed Vessel to US Navy

Austal Ltd. announced it had successfully delivered Joint High Speed Vessel 5 (JHSV 5), USNS Trenton, to the US Navy. USNS Trenton is the fifth JHSV built by company at its shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, under a 10-ship, $1.6 billion contract. The company will deliver a further five Joint High Speed Vessels from its shipyard at Mobile, Alabama, with three under construction. The company is also building seven LCS, all at various stages of construction, at its shipyard in Mobile, Alabama under a 10-vessel, $3.5 billion contract the US Navy awarded to company in 2010.

Austal Ltd. Announces Lays Off Workers

Austal Ltd. has started laying off workers at Henderson under a wind-down of a $330 million Customs patrol boats program, in a move which will see up to 300 jobs shed by the end of the year 2015. The defence contractor made 40 people redundant. The company said they were non-permanent staff, including labour hire, contract workers and casuals. The Henderson workforce had doubled to about 600 in recent years to design and build eight Cape Class patrol boats and two high-speed support vessels for the Middle East nation of Oman. The workforce is expected to be scaled back to about 300 once the last of the patrol boats is finished. Five boats have so far been handed over to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, with the last three to be delivered by the September quarter.
