austal ltd (ASB) Key Developments

Austal Receives Contract to Deliver Fourth Cape Class Patrol Boat

Austal Ltd. has delivered Cape Sorell, the fourth of eight cape class patrol boats being supplied to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service under a AUD 330 million design, build and in-service support contract. The remaining four Cape Class vessels are at various stages of construction and will be delivered progressively through to late 2015, in line with the contract. Austal was awarded the contract for the design, construction and through-life support of the Cape Class patrol boats for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service in August 2011. The eight 58 metre aluminium monohulls are due to be delivered between March 2013 and August 2015. The support contract extends for a minimum period of eight years and encompasses a full range of intermediate and depot level maintenance activities. Further options can be exercised by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service for In-Service Support for the life of the Cape Class Patrol Boat Fleet. The Cape Class Patrol Boats will have greater range, endurance and flexibility in responding to maritime security threats than the current fleet. These vessels will also have enhanced capability to operate in higher sea states and survive in more severe conditions. The Cape Class Patrol Boats will be able to: undertake 28 day patrols; sail 4,000 nautical miles before having to refuel; combat the full range of maritime security threats; carry an increased crew to more effectively and safely manage boarding operations; identify, track and intercept an extended range of threats in the maritime domain and gather intelligence and store evidence for matters that may proceed to the courts; and launch two Tender Response Vessels simultaneously. Customs and Border Protection patrol boats may be deployed according to aerial surveillance, community reports and/or radar sightings. They may be used to: counter people, drug and weapons smuggling; apprehend foreign fishing vessels; gather information and intelligence; monitor environmental pollution; and assist management of offshore nature reserves and marine parks.

Austal Ltd Wins LCS Contract for Class Services Support

Austal Ltd. is to be awarded a $14.36 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract modification for class services in support of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. Austal USA will provide engineering and design services, as well as affordability efforts to reduce LCS acquisition and lifecycle costs. Work will be performed in Mobile, Alabama (72pc) and Pittsfield, Massachusetts (28pc), and is expected to be completed by December 2015. In addition to the above service contract, Austal is to be awarded a Basic Ordering Agreement in support of the US Navy's Littoral Combat Ship program.

Austal Australia Receives Systems and Support Contracts

Austal Australia has received systems and support contracts from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Raytheon Australia and Svitzer Australia. In doing so, Austal has been contracted by the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for the design, fabrication and installation of an Austal proprietary Ride Control System on an Austal designed and constructed 41metre Water-Taxi. Four of these Water Taxis are operated by Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and supported by Austal's regional support centre in Trinidad. This system will enhance passenger comfort and enable the vessel to open up new routes further contributing to Trinidad and Tobago's national infrastructure. Design and fabrication will be completed at Austal's Defence facility in Perth with installation led by Austal's regional support centre in first quarter of 2015. Austal has also secured an extended long term contract from Raytheon for the repair and maintenance of Submarine Emergency Radio Beacons (SERB) for the Royal Australian Navy Collins Class submarine fleet. With options, this work could run through to 2018. The work will be completed at Austal's Defence facility in Perth.
