Alstom to Supply Substations for Electric Interconnection System in Chile

Transmision Electrica del Norte, or TEN, has awarded a contract to Alstom to supply four turnkey substations in Chile. Under the E260 million contract, Alstom will build and supply three new 500kV substations in Chacayita, Los Changos and Cumbres, as well as expand the Nueva Cardones substation, all for the country's first interconnection system, Mejillones - Cardones transmission system. The project, due to be completed in 2017, will create a country-wide 580 km super electric highway interconnection system bringing together the two existing highways: Central Interconnected System (SIC) and the Interconnected System of Norte Grande (SING). The SIC covering central Chile - transmits almost 70% of the country electricity generation and serves over 90% of Chile's population of over 18 million. SING serves northern Chile, which generates a further 20% of the country's electricity with plans to produce more in the future. Alstom will supply its air-insulated and gas-insulated substations that will contribute to a total of 1500 MW of energy transmission. Alstom will also provide and install its high voltage power compensation products to enhance the power quality of installations, making the electrical network efficient, secure and with stable energy flow. All equipment will be manufactured in Alstom's world-class manufacturing facilities in Brazil, China, Finland and France, with a local dedicated project team at the site in Chile.

Alstom Signs EUR 100 Million Turnkey Transmission Deal with Brazilian Power Utility Eletrosul

Alstom has signed a EUR 100 million (USD 111 million) turnkey transmission deal with Brazilian power utility Eletrosul. The company will provide equipment for two new and six existing substations, which will connect electricity from wind farms in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. The project is scheduled to begin commercial operations in March 2018. The southern region of Brazil has huge wind energy potential and will now be able to fully optimize this alternative energy, ultimately creating diversity in the overall energy mix for over 30 million people.

Huawei and Alstom Announce Successful Completion of 4G LTE Multi-Services Live Pilot Test Based on CBTC

Huawei and Alstom announced the successful completion of the world's first live pilot test of 4G LTE multi-services based on Communications-based Train Control (CBTC), a railway signaling system based on wireless ground-to-train communication. The successful pilot, which covered the unified multi-service capabilities of several systems including CBTC, Passenger Information System (PIS), and closed-circuit television (CCTV), marks a major step forward in the LTE commercialization of CBTC services. Alstom is the world's first train manufacturer to integrate LTE 4G into its signaling system solution, the Urbalis Fluence CBTC solution, which greatly improves the suitability of eLTE, providing a converged ground-to-train wireless communication network for metro operations. The LTE pilot project was launched after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Huawei and Alstom in April 2014, which agreed to Huawei providing the eLTE network required for the pilot, and Alstom providing the train and LTE-compliant onboard equipment. The pilot was carried out at metro lines near the Valenciennes commune area in France with Huawei optimizing the network planning, broadband data services, and mission critical voice trunking services, and Alstom providing the technology integration support. During the pilot, Huawei and Alstom jointly conducted several tests, including laboratory and static test on trains, dynamic test on metro tracks, and testing of eLTE multi-services capabilities.
