ANSYS and High Performance Computing Center Announces New Partnership

ANSYS and the High Performance Computing Center have announced a new partnership. The partnership offers researchers access to ANSYS' engineering simulation solutions on HLRS' supercomputing assets to perform demanding computational fluid dynamics simulations for industrial machinery and internal combustion engine applications. Those applications require all simulation variables to be analyzed over time and space, which puts significant demands on high performance computing power and data storage. Both applications involve developing and enhancing sophisticated simulation models that are associated with such complex phenomena as fuel injection, evaporation and fuel-wall interaction, as well as combustion and emission formation. This collaboration between HLRS and ANSYS supports the German government's high-tech strategy because it paves the way for optimized utilization of available HPC infrastructure, such as HLRS' petascale system, dubbed Hornet. The Cray XC40 supercomputer features the Cray Aries network and includes nearly 95,000 Intel Haswell processor cores. ANSYS solutions provide extreme scalability beyond 20,000 processor cores, enabling users to perform multiphysics, multi-scale simulations with a degree of accuracy that was previously impossible to achieve using this software.

Fujitsu Selects ANSYS Power Noise and Reliability Solutions

ANSYS has announced that Fujitsu Limited is using its power noise and reliability solutions to create three-dimensional integrated circuits to reportedly meet performance requirements for next-generation central processing units. These chips leverage three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D-IC) architecture to gain power, performance and price advantages, but the configuration increases the design complexity and the challenges associated with power and thermal management. ANSYSRedHawk and ANSYSSentinel provide Fujitsu with the ability to perform IR (voltage) drop, electromigration (EM) and thermal reliability analysis of its large processor designs by delivering full-chip capacity, fast turnaround time and production-proven sign-off accuracy. Finding the optimal floor plan for 3D-IC requires placement of through-silicon-via (TSV), as well as the power/ground network. This added complexity necessitates early-stage floor planning, analysis and debugging, as power and thermal issues become difficult to resolve later in the design process. Using RedHawk, Fujitsu can explore various TSV placement options to meet chips' power noise and reliability requirements.
