Qualcomm May Acquire AMD

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NasdaqCM:AMD) denies Reuters reports over a potential spin-off of the server segment. QUALCOMM Incorporated (NasdaqGS:QCOM) can either buy AMD, or Qualcomm only buys the server business of AMD. Given, Qualcomm's $15 billion cash position, it's entirely possible that Qualcomm buys the entire company. In either case, AMD gets a fighting chance in this case scenario, and Qualcomm can expand into adjacent markets that have significant revenue pools.

Advanced Micro Devices Reportedly Considering Spin Off, Breakup

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NasdaqCM:AMD) is at the initial stage of evaluating whether to split itself in two or spin off a business, three people familiar with the matter said. The deliberations are preliminary and no decision has been made, the people said. The people added that Advanced Micro Devices has asked a consulting firm to help it evaluate its options and draw up scenarios on how a break-up or spin-off would work. One option under consideration is separating Advanced Micro Devices’ graphics and licensing business from its server business, one of the people said. There is no certainty that a split or spin-off will occur, the people cautioned.
