applied micro circuits corp (AMCC) Key Developments

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation and Codethink Announces a Joint Collaboration to Accelerate and Foster the Adoption of ARMv8-A Architecture

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation and Codethink announced a joint collaboration to accelerate and foster the adoption of ARMv8-A architecture. As a first result of this collaboration, Codethink is now offering a complete big-endian Linux stack for the 64-bit ARMv8-A architecture, with support for multiple languages and runtime environments, including C, C++, Fortran, Java and Python. The platform is designed to support a variety of traditional enterprise applications, with full support for big-endian memory access without the need for specialized compilers, offering a wider range of sourcing options for this class of workload. Based on Linux 4.0, the full suite of GNU tools is available, along with tooling to customize delivery of target appliances for the data center, offering the first opportunity to deploy big-endian enterprise workloads on server-class ARM hardware.

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation and TE Connectivity Collaborate to Develop High-Speed Cable Connectivity Solutions for Data Center Networks

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation and TE Connectivity announced their collaboration to develop high-speed cable connectivity solutions for data center networks. The collaboration will result in active copper cables for connecting servers to top-of-rack (TOR) switches at 50Gbps and 40Gbps speeds using AppliedMicro's DSP-based transceiver and TE Connectivity's high-speed copper cable assemblies. Rapid growth in data center and the increasing CPU density within a rack typically create challenges in managing cable connections to the TOR switches while still maintaining the airflow required for cooling. By enabling bandwidth over copper cables, data center operators will be able to reduce the number of cables connecting CPUs to TOR switches by up to 75% resulting in higher manageability, better cooling and lower cost.

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd. and Applied Micro Circuits Corporation Announces Availability of GIGABYTE's MP30 Server Platform

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd. and Applied Micro Circuits Corporation have announced the availability of GIGABYTE's MP30 server platform. Powered by AppliedMicro's X-Gene Server on a Chip solution, the MP30 platform offers customers compelling performance-per-watt capability. The MP30 platform enables its users to optimize server hardware for specific workloads, thereby improving performance and value and reducing total cost of ownership. Built around X-Gene's ARMv8-A architecture and offering up to 128GB of highly accessible on-board memory, the GIGABYTE MP30 platform is intended for deployment as a general purpose server for memory-intensive workloads such as in-memory databases, storage, and content distribution networks. Fully compliant with ARM Server Base System Architecture (SBSA) and Server Base Root Requirements (SBBR) standards, GIGABYTE's MP30 server platform represents an optimized application solution for cloud and scale-out computing, supported by a robust network of over 1,000 open source software developers.
