alcatel-lucent (ALU) Key Developments

Alcatel-Lucent Signs Comprehensive Frame Agreements with China Mobile and China Unicom to Facilitate the Transition to Dynamic Cloud-Based Networks

Alcatel-Lucent has signed comprehensive frame agreements with China Mobile and China Unicom to facilitate the transition to dynamic cloud-based networks. Alcatel-Lucent will support the companies in the delivery of faster, more affordable mobile and fixed Internet connections across the country, as China strives to meet the ever-growing connectivity of people and 'things'. Under the agreements - both spanning a year and valued at up to RMB 4.53 billion (EUR 656 million) and RMB 3.59 billion (EUR 520 million) for China Mobile and China Unicom respectively - Alcatel-Lucent will deliver its mobile and fixed ultra-broadband access, IP routing, agile optical networking and network functions virtualization (NFV) capabilities, as well as Nuage Networks' software defined networking (SDN) technologies. The deployment of these technologies will also support China Mobile and China Unicom in meeting commitments to the 'Broadband China' initiative which aims to see full broadband coverage across the nation's rural and urban areas by 2020.

Alcatel-Lucent Formalizes Transfer of Trieste's Optical Transport Production Unit to Flextronics

Alcatel-Lucent announced that the company has formalized the transfer of its optical transport production unit in the northeastern Italian city of Trieste to Singapore-based electronic manufacturing services firm Flextronics. The transfer will take place on 1 July 2015. The firm has signed a binding agreement with trade unions before formalizing the transfer of the unit. As per the terms of the deal, the Trieste plant will continue supplying Alcatel-Lucent with optical transport products, and would also expand into new markets and diversifying its customer base. Additionally, this agreement guarantees jobs for the plant's 674 employees (304 permanent and 370 temporary), with Flextronics deciding not to implement any collective redundancies for at least five years.

Robi Axiata Selects Alcatel Lucent's OSS Software Portfolio

Alcatel Lucent SA has announced that Robi Axiata Limited has selected its OSS software portfolio. Robi is the first customer to deploy Alcatel-Lucent's Motive OSS portfolio, developed to harness the benefits of cloud technologies for operators to reduce costs and enhance services via a totally new and dynamic approach to automating operations. The solution is expected to be deployed and operational during the second half of 2015. Robi will deploy Alcatel-Lucent's Motive Service and Unified Resource Engine (SURE), Motive Service Event Manager (SEM) and Motive Service Performance Manager (SPM) software products, part of the Motive Dynamic Operations portfolio. Robi will also deploy incident, problem and change management and workforce management products from Alcatel-Lucent's technology partners. Alcatel-Lucent is providing an end-to-end service assurance view that will enable Robi to ensure accurate network inventory management, correlation capability, and automated ticket management capability. The Motive Dynamic Operations portfolio creates a clear path for service providers to migrate to the cloud by making their operational infrastructure as agile as the virtualized network and data center. The portfolio innovates in three unique ways: A new foundation that can dynamically identify and track all network resources, fully automated, programmable OSS that can fulfill orders and assure services, a 'self-healing' environment driven by network analytics that spans automated recovery to predictive management.
