Altium Limited Releases the TASKING C Compiler for Renesas RH850

Altium Limited announced a new release v2.2r1 of its TASKING C compiler suite for the RH850 architecture from Renesas Electronics, delivering support for new RH850 microcontroller variants, code optimization improvements, and an integrated on-chip debugger. Altium recognized a strong interest from its automotive customers to support the high performance Renesas RH850 microcontroller family through its robust and efficient TASKING VX compiler technology. The TASKING compilers have industry leading code optimization techniques and proven-in-use track records in automotive applications like powertrain, body control, chassis control, including safety critical applications. TASKING's multi-core support implementation was jointly developed with a leading Tier-1 supplier in the powertrain area and is regarded as one of the most well-respected and advanced solutions. The new release of the TASKING toolset brings support for the RH850/C1x, RH850/D1x, RH850/E1x, RH850/P1x and RH850/R1x device variants in addition to the RH850/F1x series that was supported already. While Renesas continues to widen its scalable range of RH850 products, Altium will work with Renesas to add support to the toolset for future RH850 variants, including specialized solutions for new on-chip modules. A major addition to the new release of the toolset is support for the Renesas E1 On-Chip debugging emulator, next to the Instruction Set Simulator debugger. The debugger's graphical user interface is seamlessly integrated into the Eclipse-based IDE and accessible through the debugger perspective. This brings to the developer a single coding and debugging front-end for RH850 application development, which is both comprehensive and very cost-effective compared to separate solutions. New code generation optimizations have been added to this new compiler release, such as MIL linking and code compaction (reverse inlining), techniques that have proven to be highly effective in TASKING's compilers for automotive microcontrollers. Measurements on a wide range of different application sources, including powertrain applications, show improvements up to 17% in code compactness. Features of the TASKING VX-toolset for RH850 include: Eclipse based IDE with integrated compiler and debugger; Highly efficient code generation, allowing for fast and compact applications; Integrated code analyzers for; MISRA-C:1998, C:2004 and C:2012 guidelines as the CERT C secure coding standard; Support for RH850/C1x, RH850/D1x, RH850/E1x, RH850/F1x, RH850/P1x and RH850/R1x device variants; Highly configurable linker with versatile script language for optimal memory control; Debugging functionalities through instruction-set simulator and on hardware through Renesas' On-Chip debugging emulator E1; Compliant to the Renesas ABI as well as relevant and up-to-date industry standards; Backed by Altium's ISO 26262 Support Program; The RH850 microcontroller family offers rich functional safety and embedded security features needed for new and advanced automotive applications. The VX-toolset for RH850 release v2.2 is available on PC/Windows as of March, with other platforms supported on request. TASKING's new C compiler for the GTM will be integrated into the toolset later in 2015.

Altium Limited Announces Availability of New C Compiler for the Generic Timer Module

Altium Limited announced the availability of a new C compiler for the Generic Timer Module (GTM-IP MCS) from the Robert Bosch GmbH. The GTM IP module forms a generic timer platform for complex applications in the automotive industry like power train, power steering, chassis and transmission control. To serve these different application domains, the GTM provides a wide range of timer functions like counters, multi-action capture/compare, PWM functions, duty-cycle measurement and many more. The GTM also features internal RISC-like programmable cores for data processing and complex output sequence generation. The IP is designed to run with minimal CPU interaction and to unload the CPU from handling interrupt service requests as much as possible. Generic interfaces and the hierarchical system architecture make the GTM an ideal solution as IP core for various microcontroller architectures. The GTM has been licensed to semiconductor manufacturers for incorporation of the core on automotive microcontrollers like the AURIX (Infineon Technologies), RH850 (Renesas) and Power Architecture (Freescale and STMicroelectronics). While first generation GTM silicon is currently available through semiconductor vendors, Bosch developed already the third generation, that will deliver significant functional enhancements. These improvements not only enabled the development of the TASKING C compiler, but will also allow for the GTM's features set to be exploited more efficiently and considerably easier by programming it at C language level. Bosch has supported Altium on the development of a dedicated C compiler, based on the robust and highly efficient TASKING Viper compiler technology "VX". TASKING's Viper technology ensures compatibility to other popular TASKING compilers and eases migration of applications developed for other architectures. TASKING compilers have built up a proven reputation with highly efficient and robust code for automotive applications like power train, body control, chassis control and safety critical applications. Similar to TASKING's other compiler solutions, the new compiler for the GTM will be integrated into Eclipse-based IDEs, but it will also be accessible from the command line. A simulator debugger for the GTM will complement the compiler, allowing developers to test GTM code without hardware being available. The first stable release of the C compiler for the GTM/MCS will be available in March. In the course of the year the new C compiler will be included in and fully integrated into new releases of TASKING's automotive tool suites for Infineon's TriCore/AURIX, Freescale's Power Architecture Qorriva, STMicroelectronics' Power Architecture SPC5xx and Renesas' RH850. These TASKING tool suites take again another step forward ahead of alternative solutions, excelling on code optimizations, robustness, feature-richness and unparalleled completeness through dedicated compilers and debuggers supporting the main microcontroller and integrated additional cores. Through this industry-unique TASKING C compiler for the GTM, Altium reconfirms its position as compiler vendor for the development of automotive applications. No other vendor brings such a comprehensive portfolio of compilers for these automotive microcontrollers and their respective add-on cores. TASKING's existing ISO 26262 Support Program will cover the new GTM compiler through the dedicated toolset offerings for the various main microcontrollers, enabling customers to achieve certification for functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 and others.
