Academies Australasia Group Ltd Announces Earnings Results for the Half Year Ended December 31, 2014

Academies Australasia Group Ltd. announced earnings results for the half year ended December 31, 2014. For the period, the company’s net profit fell 64% to $976,000 from $2.72 million for the first half of last year. Earnings before tax, depreciation and amortization fell 36% to $2.49 million on revenues up 36% to $29.21 million. Basic earnings per share were 1.6 cents, down from 5.2 cents. The lower profit was mainly because A university (pathway) partner raised its international student recruitment risk management criteria at short notice, several times. These actions adversely affected enrolments and necessitated substantial refunds in compliance with regulatory requirements. Another university partner imposed stringent restrictions on student recruitment as part of its risk mitigation strategy, also at short notice, that reduced enrolments. As the regulatory reforms to the international student visa program settle, short-notice risk mitigation strategies are unlikely to recur.
