ADVA Optical Networking Announces the Launch of its FSP 150 ProVM Product Family

ADVA Optical Networking announced the launch of its FSP 150 ProVM product family. The ADVA FSP 150 ProVM is a new generation of edge network functions virtualization (NFV) technology that significantly extends the capabilities of present network interface devices by combining Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and IP demarcation with an internal server that can host virtual network applications. What stands this product family apart is that it's the only carrier-grade virtual network functions (VNF) edge solution on the market that can deliver comprehensive service assurance for both its integrated server as well as the connecting network. Hardware-assisted monitoring enables service providers to directly monitor the performance of applications in the most detailed and reliable manner possible. Such service assurance is critical for service providers as they seek to expand their business to offer managed network services. To ensure that service providers are able to fully leverage the potential of NFV, the ADVA FSP 150 ProVM is a completely open solution. It includes standardized interfaces based on OpenFlow, OpenStack and Netconf/YANG. The close integration of control and management systems with the underlying hardware creates strong synergies between physical and virtual network functions, resulting in optimum performance. To mitigate the security risks of migrating to open-source software and standard network components, the ADVA FSP 150 ProVM includes ADVA ConnectGuard(TM). This technology provides a key mix of features that ensure network security and data protection. These features include robust encryption, tamper resistance and network isolation with access control lists. What's more, the ADVA FSP 150 ProVM also includes the company's unique SyncjackTM time distribution and assurance technology, a compelling feature for virtualization in the radio access network. The capabilities of the ADVA FSP 150 ProVM will be displayed in a joint demonstration with BT and Alchera Technologies at the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress from October 12 until October 16, 2015.

ADVA Optical Networking Introduces New Data Center Interconnect Functionality

ADVA Optical Networking announced that it has added new client rates, multiplexing and amplification capabilities to its FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) platform. The company's data center interconnect (DCI) technology can now support 10Gbit/s and 40Gbit/s client rates in addition to 100Gbit/s. This mix of client rates ensures that customers can effectively scale their DCI networks as their business demands. Also available are a range of new channel multiplexers to best fit customers' specific needs, including a high-density 48-channel multiplexer on a single line card. What's more, the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) also features the self-contained DCI amplification line card that comprises all necessary components, including an optical supervisory channel. These new DCI features will be officially launched at NANOG 65. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) was introduced earlier this year and has been widely applauded for its scale, openness and efficiency. This is one of the few DCI technologies on the market that features a 400Gbit/s single line card and can deliver 51.2Tbit/s of total throughput at 1.4Tbit/s per rack unit. It's also a true open optical line system and supports the latest OpenConfig protocols. Furthermore, it transports 2Tbit/s of duplex traffic at less than 1 kilowatt. That's less than half a watt per Gbit/s. With the introduction of today's features, ADVA Optical Networking's DCI technology will be vital for internet content providers (ICPs) and cloud service providers (CSPs) seeking to connect data centers across both shorter and longer distances. In fact, the new amplification capabilities will help transport DCI data over distances in excess of 1,200km at 200Gbit/s per wavelength.

ADVA Optical Networking and Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center Trial 400G DCI Technology in Research and Education Network

ADVA Optical Networking announced that it has successfully completed a rigorous trial of its 400Gbit/s coherent data center interconnect (DCI) technology with the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC). The trial was conducted over 385km of fiber, spreading between two research and education centers in Poznan and Warsaw. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) with its unique DCI technology transported data continuously for 14 hours without any block errors - something no one else in the industry has done. What's more, ADVA Optical Networking used software-defined optics to deliver flexible data rates and modulation. This means the network can intelligently scale from 200Gbit/s to 300Gbit/s to 400Gbit/s and from QPSK to 8QAM to 16QAM as required. The 400Gbit/s trial was conducted using the live commercial PIONIER network. PIONIER is a consortium of Polish research and education organizations and its network is operated domestically by PSNC. For the purpose of the trial, the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) was configured with two 200Gbit/s wavelengths operating at 16QAM within an optical super-channel. The system also featured reconfigurable add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs) and hybrid amplifiers. After 14 hours of testing, the trial resulted in complete error-free transmission with impressive optical-signal-to-noise ratios of approximately 20dB. This trial clearly highlights the capabilities of the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnect(TM) technology, especially for the bandwidth-intensive applications used in data center transport.
