ABB Wins $30 Million Orders from Casa dos Ventos to Provide Substations

ABB Ltd. has won orders worth around $30 million from Casa dos Ventos to provide substations and related power infrastructure enabling the integration of power from two new wind complexes into the country's transmission grid. The orders were booked in the first quarter of 2015. The projects in northeastern Brazil are scheduled for completion in 2016. Once finished, they will be capable of generating enough renewable energy to meet the consumption needs of about 300,000 local households, avoiding the annual emission of approximately 325,000 tons of carbon dioxide. The two 216 and 130 megawatt (MW) wind complexes Sao Clemente and Tiangua will be located in the states of Pernambuco and Ceara. The substations will also be equipped with IEC 61850-compliant open standard automation capabilities as well as control and protection systems, to enable monitoring and control of all power assets to enhance operational and maintenance efficiency and safety at the facilities.

ABB Ltd Unveils New $50 Million Manufacturing Facilities in Czech Republic

ABB Ltd. has unveiled the new $50 million manufacturing facilities in the Czech Republic for air-insulated medium voltage switchgear, instrument transformers and substation automation systems. New manufacturing units for air-insulated medium voltage switchgear and instrument transformers will be located at the company's site in Brno. New substation automation systems facilities will also be established near an existing ABB site in Trutnov. At the company's Brno campus, the company's medium-voltage business unit produces air-insulated switchgear, instrument transformers and sensors and has a service unit and R&D center. It will cover a production area of about 13,000 square meters and enable a 25% increase in the number of switchgear units produced. One of the highlights of the new unit will be fully automated and semi-automated lines for casting instrument transformers, deploying ABB robots.

ABB Wins Order Worth Around $25 Million from Colombia's Interconexion Electrica S.A. E.S.P. to Deliver 54 Shunt Reactors

ABB has won an order worth around $25 million from Colombia's Interconexion Electrica S.A. E.S.P. (ISA) to deliver 54 shunt reactors. The order was booked in the first quarter of 2015. This order is an extension of an existing agreement currently under execution which includes another 65 shunt reactors. The reactors are scheduled for delivery between 2015 and 2017. The equipment will support ISA as it develops high-voltage transmission lines for the Colombian, Chilean and Peruvian electric grids to facilitate greater linkage between the region's energy networks. As part of the overall supply, ABB will deliver 55, 500 kV shunt reactors to be installed in Colombia, 28 units in Peru, and 36 in Chile. Due to the size of the reactors it is difficult to transport them in one piece, so they will be shipped in smaller parts and assembled on site.
