ABB Ltd provides power and automation technologies for utility and industrial customers worldwide. The company’s Discrete Automation and Motion segment provides motors, generators, variable speed drives, programmable logic controllers, robots and robotics, solar inverters, wind converters, rectifiers, and excitation systems, as well as power quality and protection solutions, electric vehicle fast charging infrastructure solutions, components and subsystems for railways, and related services for discrete automation, process industries, transportation, and utilities. Its Low Voltage Products segment provides protection, control, and measurement for electrical installations; enclosures, switchboards, electronics, and electromechanical devices for industrial machines and plants; products for wiring and cable management, cable protection systems, power connection, and safety; and building control systems for home and building automation. The company’s Process Automation segment develops and sells control and plant optimization systems, automation products and solutions, and industry-specific application services for the oil, gas, petrochemicals, metals and minerals, marine and turbocharging, pulp and paper, chemical and pharmaceuticals, and power industries. Its Power Products segment offers circuit breakers, switchgears, and capacitors, as well as instrument, power, distribution, and traction transformers for electrical and other infrastructure utilities, as well as industrial and commercial customers. The company’s Power Systems segment provides transmission and distribution systems, as well as power plant automation and electrification solutions, including monitoring and control products, software and services, and components for power generation, transmission and distribution utilities, and other infrastructure utilities, as well as other industrial and commercial enterprises. ABB Ltd was founded in 1883 and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.

ABB Inks Global Infrastructure Services Contracts with IBM, Wipro and BT

ABB has signed multi-year contracts for global infrastructure services with IBM for hosting management services, with Wipro for end-user computing and with British Telecom (BT) for network-related services. The fully managed services will reduce operating costs significantly, increase flexibility, global standardization and coverage with a clearly defined service ownership in ABB. This will yield improved end-to-end responsibility and consistent-set up serving all countries, as well as improve reliability and service levels. ABB Ltd Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015

ABB Ltd. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported total revenues of $8,555 million against $9,471 million a year ago. Income from operations was $859 million against $855 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations before taxes was $807 million against $788 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations, net of tax was $577 million against $563 million a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $564 million or $0.25 per basic and diluted share against $544 million or $0.24 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Income from continuing operations, net of tax amounts attributable to the company shareholders was $560 million or $0.25 per basic and diluted share against $545 million or $0.24 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $53 million against net cash used operating activities of $45 million a year ago. Purchases of property, plant and equipment and intangible assets were $176 million against $203 million a year ago. Consolidated operational EBITA was $949 million against $1,039 million a year ago. Net debt as on March 31, 2015 was $1,554 million against $923 million as on December 31, 2014. Revenues grew 3% on a like-for-like basis (down 10% in US dollars) in the first quarter, mainly reflecting the successful execution of the stronger order backlog in most businesses. Revenues were steady to higher in all divisions except Process Automation, where the lower opening order backlog in the oil and gas and mining businesses resulted in a modest revenue decline. Operational EBITA increased on a like-for-like basis compared to the first quarter 2014, mainly due to better performance in Power Systems supported by progress on the `step change' program. On a US-dollar basis, operational EBITA was down due to currency translation effects of approximately 10% and impacts from divestments of approximately 4%.
