Japan Airlines and TAM Airlines Announce Codeshare Agreement

Japan Airlines and TAM Airlines both members of the one world (registered) alliance, announced that they will begin a code share cooperation on 6 international and 21 Brazil-domestic routes starting March 25, 2015. JAL's new code share flights with JJ, which are pending government approval, are in addition to the airline's existing code share cooperation to the region with its one world and joint business partner American Airlines. With the newly added code shares, JAL customers will have even more seamless connecting service and improved access to and within Brazil. In addition to JAL's current code share flights (operated by AA) to Brazil via New York, Los Angeles and Dallas/Fort Worth, the airline will offer code share flights operated by JJ via London, Frankfurt and Paris as well as New York. JAL will also provide code share service on JJ's Brazil-domestic routes resulting in an increase of the number of Brazilian cities served from two to thirteen. JAL Mileage Bank members along with other oneworld alliance frequent flyer members flying on JAL's new code share flights operated by TAM Airlines can earn miles and enjoy numerous other oneworld benefits. JAL's strengthened relationship with JJ delivers more convenience to customers and the airline continues to embrace new challenges to become its customers most preferred airline in the world.

Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy LLP and Hausfeld, LLP Provides Update of Settlement of Class Action Lawsuit Involving Price of Airline Tickets

Settlements have been reached with eight airlines in a class action lawsuit involving the price of airline tickets. The Settling Defendants are: Air France; Cathay Pacific; Japan Airlines; Malaysian Airlines; Qantas; Singapore Airlines; Thai Airways; and Vietnam Airlines. The lawsuit continues against five Non-Settling Defendant airlines: Air New Zealand; All Nippon Airways (ANA); China Airlines (Taiwan); EVA Airways; and Philippines Airlines. The lawsuit claims that the Defendants agreed to fix prices on tickets for transpacific air travel. As a result, ticket purchasers may have paid more than was necessary. The Settling Defendants deny the allegations, and deny that they have any liability. The Defendant airlines also deny liability, although ANA has pled guilty to fixing the prices of certain discounted tickets. Purchasers are included if: they bought a ticket for air travel from one of 26 airlines; the ticket included at least one flight segment between the U.S. and Asia or Oceania; and the purchase was made between January 1, 2000 and the present. The Settling Defendants have agreed to pay $39,502,000. Money will not be distributed yet, and will be distributed pursuant to a Plan of Allocation approved by the Court. Class Counsel will pursue the lawsuit against the Non-Settling Defendants.
