Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., together with its subsidiaries, provides marine, land, and air transportation services primarily in Japan, the United States, Europe, and Asia. It also offers logistics services, such as ocean cargo freight, air and marine forwarding, land transportation, warehousing, and buyer's consolidation services. The company’s Bulk Shipping Business segment provides dry bulk carrier services comprising transportation of raw materials, such as coal, iron ore, grains, and woodchip; offers car carrier services; transports liquefied gas using LNG and LPG carriers, and crude oil and oil products by tanker; provides transport service for gasoline and other energy resources used directly by consumers; and offers domestic coastal freight transportation and ferry services. Its Offshore Energy Exploration and Production Support and Heavy Lifter Business segment provides offshore support vessel services; offers oilfield drilling services; and transports large-scale cargo related to energy and infrastructure development. The company’s Other segment engages in ship management, travel agency, and real estate rental and management businesses. The company also provides shipping agency, harbor transportation, container repairing, financing, and freight consolidation services. As of March 31, 2014, it operated 271 dry bulk carriers, 98 car carriers, 74 containerships, 66 LNG carriers and tankers, 50 short sea and coastal vessels, 16 heavy lifter vessels, and 8 offshore energy exploration and production support vessels. The company was founded in 1919 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. announced consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, marine transportation and other operating Revenue was JPY 335,457 million against JPY 319,786 million a year ago. Operating income was JPY 11,248 million against JPY 9,685 million a year ago. Ordinary income was JPY 14,587 million against JPY 6,481 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was JPY 13,404 million against JPY 7,416 million a year ago. Net income was JPY 10,665 million against JPY 4,690 million a year ago. Net income attributable to owners of the parent was JPY 10,194 million against JPY 4,280 million a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was JPY 19,286 million against JPY 20,110 million a year ago. Purchases of vessels, property and equipment were JPY 21,890 million against JPY 31,979 million a year ago. Purchases of intangible fixed assets were JPY 219 million against JPY 168 million a year ago. Net income per diluted share of common stock was JPY 9.27 against JPY 3.90 a year ago. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. Signs Contract with Vantec HTS Forwarding, Ltd. to Transport Hitachi Rail Cars

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. has signed a contract with Vantec HTS Forwarding Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi Transport System Ltd., to transport Hitachi rail cars for Intercity Express Programme, or IEP, that are being manufactured at Hitachi's Kasado plant. These IEP rail cars will be loaded onto new K Line vessels from the Port of Tokuyama-Kudamatsu, located near Hitachi's Kasado plant, and will be discharged at the nearest port on the east coast of UK to Newton Aycliffe, where Hitachi is constructing the train plant for these rail cars. A total of 10 vessels of this series of 7500-unit size have been ordered with design. The first vessel will be rolled out in July 2015. These new vessels will give the company increased car-carrying capacity of 20% as well as much more space for High & Heavy cargo, including Construction Machinery. With these newly-designed vessels, K Line will continue to proactively increase the handling of railway infrastructure as exports of these cargo from Japan are expected to increase from now on.
