Takata Corporation manufactures and sells automotive safety systems and products for automakers worldwide. It offers seat belt products, including webbings, retractors, tension reducers, pretensioners, load limiters, motorized seat belts, buckles, and tongue plates; and driver, passenger, side, curtain, knee, and motor cycle airbags. The company also provides airbelts, pop-up hood devices, lane departure warning systems, pedestrian head protection airbags, and front center airbags; steering wheel systems, such as frames, rims, decorative parts and switches, and heating products, as well as spokes; and electronic products comprising airbag electronic control units and satellite sensors, lane departure warning systems, and seat weight sensors. In addition, it offers interior parts, such as seat covers, headrests, cargo shades, center and door armrests, sun visors, and bolsters; textile products, including a range of fabrics for aerospace, automotive, clean rooms, commercial roofing, marine safety, disaster, scuba diving, tire reinforcement, transmission belt, and other specialty applications; and child restraint systems and multi point harness motor sports products. The company was formerly known as Takata Kojo Corporation and changed its name to Takata Corporation in 1983. Takata Corporation was founded in 1933 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Takata Corporation is a subsidiary of TKJ Corporation.

Takata Reports Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended June 30, 2015; Revises Earnings Guidance for the Fiscal Year 2016

Takata reported earnings results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net income of JPY 3 billion versus JPY 38.6 billion in the same period a year earlier. Operating income was up 34.9% year on year to JPY 10.3 billion during the period, while sales increased 20.1% year o year to JPY 181.3 billion. The company revised its forecasts for the fiscal year 2016 and now expects sales of JPY 720 billion, up from JPY 700 billion announced in May 2015; and operating income of JPY 40 billion, up from JPY 34 billion. The forecast for net income, however, remains the same at JPY 20 billion.

Takata Announces Board Changes

Takata has appointed Hiroshi Shimizu, who is the current senior vice-president and who has also been in charge of quality assurance since 2013, to its board of directors, giving him more authority. Shimizu's is one of the three new appointments to the Japanese safety system supplier's board. Apart from Shimizu, Takata has named its chief financial officer (CFO) Yoichiro Nomura to the board. Meanwhile, Stefan Stocker, who resigned as Takata's president in December 2014 amid airbags recall crisis, will step down from the company's boards when his term ends this month. Stocker, a former executive of Robert Bosch, joined Takata as executive officer in February 2013.
