Toshiba Corporation Launches Application Processor Development Platforms for Wearable and IoT Devices

Toshiba Corporation’s announced the launch of a Hardware Development Kit (HDK) and Software Development Kit (SDK), able to monitor activity levels, take a pulse and check heart rate, that together form a development platform for the TZ1000 seriesapplication processor for wearable and IoT devices. Toshiba will start supplying IoT device developers with the HDK and SDK on May 7, 2015, and also, from April 28, 2015, conduct a trial campaign that will offer a limited quantity of reference boards and its development environment free of charge. TZ1000 series devices integrate a sensor, a processor, flash memory, and a Bluetooth® Low Energy controller in one package and are designed as a single-device solution for measuring, processing, saving and communicating data required for wearable and IoT devices. The development environment includes an HDK embedded with the TZ1000 series TZ1001MBG processor, the SDK that operates on it, software development tool support and documentation. The kits will allow users to evaluate and develop software in an environment closer to final products and to optimize use of the application processor for specific product characteristics compared with previous development environment. The development environment will contribute to reduce design man-hour requirements and product development periods.HDK: It consists of a TZ1001MBG-embedded main board and a biometric sensor board that measures pulse waves and the heart’s electrical activities, allowing users to combine their own designed board instead of biometric sensor boards. SDK: it includes driver software that controls each component incorporated in TZ1001MBG, middleware that measures activity and pulse waves, and application software that controls the overall system. Supporting software development tool: The HDK and SDK are supported by recommended development tools, including Keil® MDK-ARM and IAR Embedded Workbench® for ARM. Toshiba Launches Low-Height Package Low-Input Current Drive Transistor Output Photocoupler

Toshiba Corporation’s Semiconductor & Storage Products Company announced the launch of a low-input current drive transistor output photocoupler in a low-height SO6L package, which can be used to replace conventional DIP4 pin package products. The new product, "TLP383", starts shipments from April 27, 2015. The new product incorporate Toshiba's original high output infrared LEDs and guarantee the same CTR (Current Transfer Ratio) at 0.5mA input current and at 5.0mA input current. The new photocoupler has a low height of 2.3mm (max), an approximately 45% reduction from Toshiba conventional DIP4 package products. At the same time, the new product has an isolation specification equivalent to DIP4 wide lead type package products and guarantees a creepage and clearance distance of 8mm (min), and isolation voltage of 5000Vrms (min).

Toshiba Corporation's Semiconductor & Storage Products Company announced the launch of 'T4KB3', a 13-megapixel (MP) BSI CMOS image sensor with the optical format of 1/3.07 inch that offers makers of smartphones and tablets lower power consumption and a smaller chip size. Mass production shipments start on April 24, 2015. A new design methodology helps to reduce the power consumption of the new sensor to 200mW, or less at 30fps, 53% that of Toshiba’s sensor now in mass production. The new sensor also deploys 'Bright Mode' technology that captures bright video images at high frame rates, realizing Full-HD video capture at 120fps equivalent. The new CMOS sensor positions Toshiba to contribute to the realization of smaller form-factor camera modules and thinner mobile devices. Applications: smartphones and tablets. Key features: low power circuit design reduces power consumption to 53% of Toshiba’s current product; smallest class of chip size for 13MP CMOS image sensors; full-HD video capture at 120fps equivalent; Bright Mode technology that captures bright video images at high frame rates.
