Kobe Steel, Ltd. to Supply IFVs for Delimara LNG Regasification Terminal in Malta

Kobe Steel Ltd. has announced that it will supply its intermediate fluid LNG vaporizers, or IFVs, for the Delimara LNG Regasification Terminal under construction in Malta. Kobe Steel will supply two IFVs. Each unit will have a regasification capacity of 58 tonnes per hour. Kobe Steel plans to ship the IFVs in October 2015. Electrogas Malta Limited will operate the large-scale LNG receiving terminal upon completion. J&P-AVAX S.A. is undertaking the engineering and construction of the receiving terminal. A floating storage unit (FSU), to be moored offshore, will supply the LNG to the land-based receiving terminal, where the regasification facility will vaporize the LNG into natural gas. The natural gas will be supplied to the adjacent Delimara Power Station, Malta's power generation facility, and the new combined cycle power plant to be build. Kobe Steel's IFVs will be the main equipment installed at the regasification facility. To increase the power generation capacity of the new combined cycle power plant cold energy derived from LNG regasification of Kobe Steel's IFVs will be used in order to cool the air to the gas turbines. Kobe Steel's IFVs are highly suitable to effectively make use of cold energy. The Japanese company's cooperation with J&P-AVAX's during the early stage of design also contributed to winning the order for the IFVs.

Kobe Steel, Ltd. Enters Power Delivery Contract with Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc

Kobe Steel Ltd. announced that it entered into a power delivery contract with The Kansai Electric Power Co. Inc. Kobe Steel was the winning bidder for the tender to supply electricity to Kansai Electric Power. Location of power station: Within Kobe Works on land made available after the No. 3 Blast Furnace is shut down. Type of power generation: Pulverized coal-fired power generation. Ultra-supercritical pressure power generation equipment. Capacity: 1,300,000 kW (650,000 kW x 2 units) (Maximum delivered power: 1,221,000 kW). Start of power supply: first unit to start in fiscal 2021, second unit to start in fiscal 2022. The coal-fired power station to be constructed will be equipped with ultra-supercritical pressure power generation equipment, in line with the “best available technology” (BAT) standards announced by Japan for the installation of coal-fired power generation equipment. The plan also calls for implementing advanced environmental measures suitable for an urban power station. As the location of the power station will be in the electricity demand area of Kobe and the surrounding Hanshin area, the power station will contribute to improving power supply efficiency and lowering carbon emissions. At the same time, the new power station, as a base energy source, will be able to supply a large amount of inexpensive electricity.
