Deutsche Telekom and Cisco Announce New Intercloud Services

Deutsche Telekom AG and Cisco Systems, Inc. have announced newly developed Intercloud-based services for small-and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers. The announcement builds upon the long-standing strategic relationship between Deutsche Telekom and Cisco. The two companies announced their Intercloud collaboration in September 2014. Deutsche Telekom and Cisco are currently setting up the necessary infrastructure for a redundant Intercloud node in Deutsche Telekom's high-performance data centers in Magdeburg and Biere near Berlin, Germany. Deutsche Telekom will deliver sovereign and highly secure services that meet Germany's strict data protection standards to business customers throughout the European region. With the initial Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering, Cisco and Deutsche Telekom provide an open source cloud platform based on the OpenStack industry standard. This allows the transition of all virtualized workloads into the cloud at the higher scalability and with significantly improved cost efficiency, while helping to ensure data sovereignty. Moreover, standardized APIs, open standards, virtualization and application policy libraries will be added. This allows true workload mobility between private enterprise clouds, virtual private clouds of Deutsche Telekom, public cloud infrastructures of different providers and the Intercloud node;greatly simplifying cloud access for customers. As a completely virtualized service, Intercloud is highly scalable and reliable. Based on this cloud platform, further Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) will be developed between Deutsche Telekom, Cisco and their strategic Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partners. Special focus will be given to cloud applications enabling the Internet of Everything (IoE), collaboration, cloud-based virtual managed services and cloud-based systems management solutions. Together with its partners, Cisco is building the Intercloud a globally connected network of clouds.

Cisco and Azeti Networks Announce Market Availability of the First Solution Incubated from the Cisco IoE Innovation Center in Berlin

Cisco announced that the first solution incubated from the Cisco IoE Innovation Center in Berlin is now available to the market. Developed in collaboration with Berlin-based company azeti Networks, a new asset management solution monitors and controls distributed infrastructure over the Internet. The solution was developed in the Cisco openBerlin IoE Innovation Center and is now available just six months after the center was announced. The center will officially open later in 2015, and is currently operating in an interim location. Due to cross-organizational innovation taking place inside the center, the two companies were able to accelerate the solution's development process, bringing the solution to market much more quickly. The asset management solution is the first product from the center to be made available for market. Sensor and camera data can be analyzed in the fog on software running directly on the router, and can then be shared over cloud computing. Through this innovative solution, companies can achieve advancements in productivity and safety enhancements as well. Cisco has adapted the asset management software from azeti to operate on Cisco routers. In the router, the data from sensors and cameras is analyzed through "fog" computing. The analysis of that sensor data takes place on the network equipment, where azeti software has been installed. Decisions can be taken and management commands issued rapidly as a result of that capability. As a result, the solution does not require a persistent Internet connection in order to operate, nor does it require a large amount of bandwidth into the router since only the most pertinent data is transmitted back over the wide area network.
