Costco Wholesale Corporation Enters into Agreements with Citi and Visa

Costco Wholesale Corporation has entered into a new co-brand credit card program agreement with Citi and an acceptance and co-brand incentive agreement with Visa. The implementation of these agreements is subject to the purchase of the existing co-brand credit card portfolio by Citi. Under the terms of the agreements, Citi would become the exclusive issuer of Costco's co-brand credit cards and Visa will replace American Express as the credit card network for Costco in the US and Puerto Rico beginning April 1, 2016. Once issued, Costco's co-brand Visa credit card would provide generous rewards to Costco members, serve as the Costco membership card, and would be accepted at Costco locations in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as all merchants worldwide that accept Visa credit cards. Costco will provide its members with additional information in the coming months regarding the anticipated transition from its existing co-brand credit card program.

Visa and Airtel Sign Partnership to Extend Mobile Payments to Seven African Countries

Visa Inc. and Bharti Airtel announced a partnership to bring innovative mobile payment services to seven markets in Africa including Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles and Tanzania. Visa and Airtel will build on the existing capabilities of Airtel's Mobile Money service, allowing subscribers to use their Airtel Money account to pay in stores and online wherever Visa is accepted. Additionally, customers can withdraw money and make payments from their Airtel Money account using their Airtel Money Visa companion card. Mobile payments can transform the lives of people throughout Africa who commonly have access to a mobile phone, but not a bank. In addition to everyday Visa transactions in stores, online and at ATMs, Airtel Money can also be used to make micro-payments, conduct fund transfers, purchase airtime and pre-paid electricity, plus Internet bundles - using an easy, safe mobile experience.
