LCY Chemical Remains Off Line Following an Order from the Local Government to Stop Operations of Polypropylene Plants in Kaohsiung

LCY Chemical's polypropylene (PP) facilities with total capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year at Kaohsiung in Taiwan have remained off line following an order from the local government to stop operations. The company is making preparations to apply to the government to resume operations, the source added. LCY Chemical had initially planned to restart production last weekend, but the plans were delayed after the local authorities on 8 August ordered the company to suspend operations. The government is requiring LCY Chemical to review its operations, which include its petrochemical pipelines, following the gas explosions in Kaohsiung late on 31 July. LCY Chemical took its 250,000 tonne/year PP line [2]off line on 6 August after four days of operations. The same line was shut on 1 August for a day. The company's 150,000 tonne/year PP line was shut since the gas explosions.

LCY Chemical Closes Polypropylene Plants in Kaohsiung

LCY Chemical has shut down both its polypropylene (PP) plants in Kaohsiung as its propylene feedstock supply was disrupted following a city gas explosion. The two PP plants with a capacity of 250,000 tones/year and 150,000 tones/year respectively were shut. It was not clear when the PP plants would be restarted. The shutdown of the company’s plants could tighten the regional supply of specialty PP grades such as PP injection random copolymers, but it would have little impact on the commodity PP resins such as homo polymer injection and flat yarn grades.
