It also provides LED products, such as LED packages, LED for mobiles, LED BLU, LED lighting products, and LED lighting systems; display products, including power modules, tape substrates, electronic materials, and photo masks; and PCB and substrate components comprising build-up PCBs, rigid flexible PCBs, package substrates, and lead frames. The company was formerly known as LG Electro-Components Co., Ltd. and changed its name to LG Innotek Co., Ltd. in May 2000. LG Innotek Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year of 2014

LG Innotek announced consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2014. For the fourth quarter, the company reported continues to show solid growth, recording its highest ever performance last year. The company recorded KRW 1,815.0 billion in revenue and KRW 58.0 billion in net profit in fourth quarter of 2014, showing an increase of 17.6% and 100.8%, respectively, from KRW 1,544.0 billion in revenue and KRW 28.9 billion in net profit the same period of the previous year. Notably, the fourth quarter revenue increased 10% over the preceding quarter despite the seasonal slump in demand, while the fourth quarter net profit decreased by 43.6% over the preceding quarter. For the year, the company reported continues to show solid growth, recording its highest ever performance last year. In 2014, the company recorded KRW 6,446.1 billion in revenue and KRW 314.0 billion in net profit, an increase of 4.1% and 130.6%, respectively, from KRW 6,211.5 billion in revenue and KRW 136.2 billion in net profit for the preceding year.

LG Innotek Co., Ltd. Develops "Rare Earth Free" Automotive Dual-Clutch Transmission Motor

LG Innotek Co., Ltd. announced that the company has developed "rare earth free" automotive dual-clutch transmission (DCT) motor. The development of the new DCT motor and associated manufacturing and quality control equipment will lead to its production by LG Innotek early 2015. The motor marks an important breakthrough since it will ease concerns among automakers about their reliance on uncertain rare earth supplies. Rare earth elements are usually used in materials for automotive motors, but they are difficult to source and are subject to sharp price increases when supplies dwindle. There are only small and concentrated reserves worldwide of the rare earth minerals, which are often used to provide magnetic properties for automotive motors. This new motor also reflects LG Innotek's efforts to protect the environment since the mining, refining and disposal of rare earth minerals can cause environmental damage. Minerals like Neodymium (Nd) and Dysprosium (Dy) are considered essential in the manufacture of DCT motors due to their magnetic properties. The automotive industry has been studying alternatives to rare earth minerals, but it has faced difficulties because other materials were not as suitable. The DCT motor is a core driving system component that is attached to a dual-clutch automatic transmission. This motor powers the dual-clutch automatic transmission in a fast and precise manner to enable the switching of gears swiftly and smoothly to adjust to different driving conditions. The dual-clutch automatic transmission equipped with the DCT motor is gaining attention in Europe and other developed markets since it delivers up to 12% better fuel efficiency than regular automatic transmissions and 5% better fuel efficiency than manual transmissions.
