Star Micronics Develops SR-32JII as a New Model of the Swiss Type Automatic Lathe in the SR Series

Star Micronics has developed SR-32JII as a new model of the Swiss type automatic Lathe in the SR series. This model is mainly targeted at machining of large-diameter parts used in the automobile and hydraulic & pneumatic equipment fields, and scheduled to be released in April 2017. SR-32JII is a renewed version of its predecessor, model SR-32J, which has been enjoying a good reputation in the market since 2005, because of the machine rigidity which enables continuous machining with high accuracy over extended time, by employing a block build production method based on the STAR MICRONICS’ first modular design for the purpose of reducing the production development period and production lead time. This model includes two types. Type A with linear control of 5 axes by incorporating a six-axis unit for backworking and type B with linear control of 6 axes by incorporating an eight-axis unit with Y2 axis control function. In addition, power tools on the gang-type tool post for front working include two types – 5-axis type and 6-axis type to offer the optimum tooling layout for customer needs. The STAR original slanted slide guideway structure is employed in the gang-type tool post to enhance the machine rigidity and enable long-time continuous machining with stable accuracy. In order to meet versatile machining needs flexibly, the guide bush type and non-guide bush type can be switched over. The guide bush type functions as a clamper for motor shafts and other long parts to restrict deflection of workpieces and achieve highly accurate machining. On the other hand, the non-guide bush type is chosen to machine nuts and other short parts to minimize scrap materials to be discarded and reduce material costs in order to achieve optimum specifications according to respective machining parts. In addition, a flip-up door is incorporated to ensure sufficient work space inside the machine and a swing-type panel is used to enable the operator to operate the machine at the best position. The NC unit is equipped with an alarm help function to check the alarm contents on the NC screen and many other help functions to improve operability and workability.
