KDDI Corporation Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended December 31, 2016; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Year Ending March 31, 2017

KDDI Corporation announced consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2016. The company reported that profit attributable to owners of the parent for the third quarter ended December 31, 2016 was JPY 171.39 billion, or JPY 59.09 per diluted share, compared to JPY 150.58 billion, or JPY 52.28 per diluted share, for the same quarter ended December 31, 2015. Operating revenue for the third quarter ended December 31, 2016 was JPY 1.22 trillion, compared to JPY 1.15 trillion for the same quarter ended December 31, 2015. For the nine months ended December 31, 2016, profit was JPY 551.25 billion, or JPY 190.89 per diluted share, compared to JPY 456.03 billion, or JPY 163.04 per diluted share, for the same period ended December 31, 2015. Operating revenue was JPY 3.52 trillion, compared to JPY 3.3 trillion for the same period ended December 31, 2015. Operating income was JPY 775.7 billion, up 15.4% year-on-year. EBITDA was JPY 1.2 trillion, up 10.4% year-on-year. For the year ending March 31, 2017, the company expects profit attributable to owners of the parent to be JPY 540,000, or JPY 219.7 per basic share and operating revenue to be JPY 4.7 million.

Nojima In Talks To Buy Fujitsu Nifty’s Business

Nojima Corporation (TSE:7419) is in talks with Fujitsu Limited (TSE:6702) to acquire its unit. According to the news report, the business in a deal estimated at around ¥25 billion. Nojima seems confident that it could expand the business through its own nationwide retail network. A final agreement on the transaction could come by the end of March 2017. KDDI Corporation (TSE:9433) and Sony Network Communications, Inc. had also bid on Fujitsu Nifty Corp. ISP business, but Nojima appears to have offered better terms. Nojima also appears interested in acquiring Nifty`s web services business.

KDDI Announces Executive Changes

KDDI has announced the appointment of Toshitake Amamiya as a new CEO for its joint venture in Myanmar, which it operates with state-owned incumbent MPT. Amamiya succeeds Takashi Nagashima, who served as CEO of the joint venture since it was launched in July 2014. Earlier, Amamiya worked as head of KDDIs global business division.
