Toshiba Corporation's Semiconductor & Storage Products Company announced the launch of 'T4KB3', a 13-megapixel (MP) BSI CMOS image sensor with the optical format of 1/3.07 inch that offers makers of smartphones and tablets lower power consumption and a smaller chip size. Mass production shipments start on April 24, 2015. A new design methodology helps to reduce the power consumption of the new sensor to 200mW, or less at 30fps, 53% that of Toshiba’s sensor now in mass production. The new sensor also deploys 'Bright Mode' technology that captures bright video images at high frame rates, realizing Full-HD video capture at 120fps equivalent. The new CMOS sensor positions Toshiba to contribute to the realization of smaller form-factor camera modules and thinner mobile devices. Applications: smartphones and tablets. Key features: low power circuit design reduces power consumption to 53% of Toshiba’s current product; smallest class of chip size for 13MP CMOS image sensors; full-HD video capture at 120fps equivalent; Bright Mode technology that captures bright video images at high frame rates.

Toshiba Corporation Wins Order to Supply Two Sets of Steam Turbines and Generators for Norte III Combined Cycle Power Plant in Mexico

Toshiba Corporation announced the receipt of an order to supply two sets of steam turbine and generators (STG) for the Norte III combined cycle power plant in Chihuahua, Mexico. Under this order, Toshiba will supply two sets of 175MW STG for the plant, a combined cycle power plant that improves generating efficiency by deploying both a gas turbine and steam turbine, the second powered by the steam from the first. According to Toshiba, it will start delivery of STG to the site from August 2016 and the plant is scheduled to come on line in August 2017. Norte III will be owned and operated by Abengoa. Also, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor is Abengoa, which awarded Toshiba the STG contract for Norte III project.

Toshiba Corporation Receives Order to Supply Lithium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System for Frequency Regulation Project in the USA

Toshiba Corporation announced that it has received an order to supply a large scale battery energy storage system (BESS) for a power frequency regulation project in Hamilton, Ohio. The project will be carried out by Sumitomo Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation of Americasand Renewable Energy Systems Americas. Toshiba’s BESS, integrating an array of 6MW-2MWh SCiB lithium-ion batteries, will be delivered in November, and the system is scheduled to start operation in December. Toshiba’s SCiB is a highly innovative lithium-ion secondary battery, distinguished by its long-life and excellent performance; it charges and discharges efficiently in a wide range of temperatures, high and low. It has a long lifetime of over 10,000 charge-discharge cycles, and operates with a high level of reliability and safety, including high resistance to external shock.
