Further, it provides e–payment; advertising design, production, agency, and publication; magazine publishing; telecommunications networks leasing; and technology development, transfer, and consulting services, as well as sells handsets and telecommunications equipment. Additionally, the company is involved in venture capital investment business. It has approximately 74 million fixed-line local access subscribers, approximately 72 million fixed-line broadband subscribers, and approximately 252 million mobile billing subscribers. The company was founded in 2000 and is based in Central, Hong Kong.

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Six Months Ended June 30, 2016; Provides Capital Expenditure Guidance for Full Year 2016

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the six months ended June 30, 2016. For the period, the company reported revenue of RMB 140,255 million against RMB 144,685 million a year ago. Profit before income tax was RMB 1,824 million against RMB 8,932 million a year ago. Profit attributable to equity shareholders of the company was RMB 1,429 million or RMB 0.06 per diluted share against RMB 6,990 million or RMB 0.28 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash inflow from operating activities was RMB 41,930 million against RMB 38,280 million a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was RMB 46,650 million against RMB 39,796 million a year ago. EBITDA was RMB 41.28 billion in the first half of 2016, and EBITDA as a percentage of the service revenue was 33.9%. Decrease in EBITDA and profit for the period as compared to the same period of last year was primarily due to the significant increase as compared to the same period of last year in selling and marketing expenses and the significant increase as compared to the same period of last year in network, operation and support expenses resulted from increase in telecommunications towers usage fee and increase in utilities charges and properties rental expenses. In the second half, the company will further deepen implementation of Focus Strategy and cooperation to deploy a premium network with an estimated full year capital expenditure of RMB 75 billion.

China Unicom, ZTE Corp. Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Joint 5G, IoT Innovation

ZTE Corporation announced that a signing for a strategic cooperation agreement on joint 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) innovation has been held with China Unicom. China Unicom and ZTE will work together to develop cooperative projects and conduct research on application scenarios, product demands, service applications, market development and other related fields. They will also look at possible future directions of 5G and IoT, and aim to achieve research results that meet the network development and evolution requirements for new business models, laying a solid foundation for long-term technical cooperation and a mutually beneficial results for both parties. In the 5G field, both China Unicom and ZTE focus on research and investment in 5G network architecture, Mobile-Edge Computing (MEC), cross-layer optimisation, bearer and other key 5G technologies to promote 5G development strategies and standardisation. In the field of IoT, both parties conduct research and experimental verification of key IoT technologies and implement research and development of service solutions and products to promote technological development and industrial cooperation. This cooperation in the 5G and IoT fields is not simply the traditional cooperation in business and equipment but one of research and development (R&D) and technologies. Because of this, both parties can reach an agreement from as early as the R&D stage, thereby enhancing their joint efforts to take a leading position in the industry. In addition, China Unicom will call upon other operators endowed with common resources for strategic cooperation with ZTE, jointly promoting future network development, technological research and business models. Mr. Shao hopes that both parties achieve outstanding results as soon as possible and wishes ZTE even greater successes in the future. ZTE will work with China Unicom to strengthen the research in 5G, IoT and future new technologies. They will jointly promote the industrialisation process, network development and technological research to help China Unicom enter the era of 5G and IoT. Mr. Xu hopes that this cooperation enables both parties to achieve outstanding results.
