Harbin Electric Company Limited, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and sells power plant equipment in the People’s Republic of China and internationally. The company operates through five segments: Main Thermal Power Equipment, Main Hydro Power Equipment, Engineering Services, Ancillary Equipment, and AC/DC Motors and Others. It provides thermal power main equipment, such as boilers, steam turbines, and steam turbine generators, as well as clean coal combustion equipment, CFB, PFBC, etc.; hydro power main equipment, including hydro power generators units; nuclear power main equipment comprising nuclear island and conventional island equipment; and a set of steam power equipment, including 9F class gas turbines, and combined gas and steam cycle sets. The company also offers clean energy products that comprise wind power, solar energy, hydro power, and desalination products; and ancillary equipment for power stations, industrial boilers, industrial steam turbines, control devices, and medium-to-heavy-duty AC/DC motors, as well as valves for power stations, pressure vessels, and axial compressors. In addition, it is involved in the construction of power station projects; contract supply of complete sets of thermal and hydro power equipment; import and export of equipment for power stations; after sales service for power station equipment products; research and development of engineering technology for turnkey power equipment and its ancillary products; and provision of technology transfer and technical consultation services, as well as environmental protection engineering services, such as desulfation and denitrification. The company is based in Harbin, the People’s Republic of China. Harbin Electric Company Limited is a subsidiary of Harbin Electric Corporation.

The Board of Directors of Harbin Electric Company Limited announced that based on the preliminary estimate by the company's finance department and the information currently available to the Board, the profit contribution from principal activities of the company and together with its subsidiaries is expected to record a significant decline for the year ended December 31, 2014 as compared with 2013 owing to price reduction and other factors. However, the overall profit for 2014 of the Group is expected to record a substantial increase as compared with 2013, mainly attributable to the substantial rise in market value of the company's shareholdings in 3 major power companies, namely Datang International Power Co. Ltd., GD Power Development Company and Inner Mongolia MengDian HuaNeng Thermal Power Corporation Limited, which has brought in extraordinary income to a larger extent for the company.

The Board of Directors of Harbin Electric Company Limited announced that, in accordance with relevant requirements of state cadre management, Mr. Sun Chang-ji and Mr. Jia Cheng-bing, the independent non-executive directors of the company, have tendered to the company their resignation. Mr. Sun tendered his resignation from the position of independent non-executive director, chairperson of remuneration committee and member of strategy development committee of the Company. Mr. Jia tendered his resignation from the position of independent non-executive director and chairperson of nomination committee. The company has approved resignation of Mr. Sun and Mr. Jia, their resignation will come into effect at the date of September 29, 2014.
