The Polyurethane segment develops polyurethanes, adhesives, and coating and construction materials. The Basic Chemicals segment offers phenols, bisphenol A, purified terephthalic acid, polyethylene terephthalate, and ethylene oxide. The Petrochemicals segment offers ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, and polypropylene. The Films and Sheets segment develops packaging films, electronic and optical films, and solar cell sheets. It is also involved in performance analysis, physical property measurements, and safety tests on chemicals; placements, temporary works, and insurance and travel agency operations; and the sale of electronics and information materials. The company was founded in 1892 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Mitsui Chemicals Shuts Osaka OCU on Tight Feedstock Supply

Mitsui Chemicals has shut its olefins conversion unit (OCU) in Osaka on 1 June due to the tight supply of feedstock ethylene. The shutdown may last for around a month. The facility can produce 120,000 tonnes/year of propylene.

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. Develops Sunglasses Using Plant-Derived Lens Material Do Green for ITU World Triathlon Yokohama

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. announced the successful development of sunglasses using its plant-derived bio-based ophthalmic lens material Do Green for participants of the May 16 -17 ITU World Triathlon Yokohama. Under the trademark Do Green, the company targets the launch of plant-derived products and providing solutions to social issues of local agricultural industries and its members in line with the company’s goal to realize a cohesive society in harmony with the environment. As the first milestone, the Mitsui Chemicals Group, in collaboration with NGO organizers, will offer part of the revenue from Do Green to promote activities focusing on ‘vision health’ of persons working in agriculture-related occupations at the material source of Do Green to contribute to an improved quality of life in these areas. The company which aims to contribute to a better society and environment, collaborated with the SWANS program of Yamamoto Kogaku Co. Ltd., which has a good track record in designing products for more comfortable sports performance, Itoh Optical Industrial Co. Ltd., which has expertise in the manufacture of high-performance lenses, and Yokohama City to develop Do Green sunglasses. Do Green sunglasses use the company’s bio-based vision correction lens material. The lens material has acquired biomass product certification in Japan and the United States.
