Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation engages in steelmaking and steel fabrication businesses worldwide. The company operates in five segments: Steelmaking and Steel Fabrication, Engineering and Construction, Chemicals, New Materials, and System Solutions. It offers steel plates; steel sheets, such as hot-dip coated and electroplated steel sheets, tin plates, and electrical steel sheets; bar and rod materials; and structural steel products. The company also provides pipes and tubes; railway, automotive, and machinery parts, including railway wheels, axles, and bogie trucks, as well as forged products; and titanium products for use in heat exchangers, automobiles, construction materials, consumer products, electric power, and desalination fields. In addition, it provides stainless steel products comprising formed steel, stainless steel foils, clad steel sheets, and nickel products, as well as high corrosion-and heat-resistant alloys, and acid-resistant and alkali-resistant alloys; steel slags; and bridge and roadway products, building steel structure engineering commodities, construction material, and offshore structures. Further, the company develops and operates in the areas of steel production plants, environment, energy, offshore projects, pipelines, and construction; and offers display materials, PWB and package materials, epoxy resins, organic electroluminescence materials, and other functional products. Additionally, it provides chemical mechanical polishing pad conditioners, silicon carbide wafers, silica/alumina spherical products, bonding wires, micro solder balls, and hot isostatic pressing processed materials; pitch-based carbon fibers and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic products; and metal substrates for catalytic converters. The company also offers system solutions in the planning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of IT systems; and supplies electricity, gas, and heat. The company was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) announced organizational reform related to overseas businesses development as of July 1, 2015, to further enhance the competitiveness on overseas business, based on 'Promote Global Strategy' which is one the major policies of the 2017 Mid-term Management Plan. Reorganization details: The Global Business Development Sector will be established. The present functions of the Overseas Business Development Division will be reorganized into the Global Business Development Division and the Global Business Support Center. The two organizations will be placed under the Global Business Development Sector. Usiminas Project, Shanghai-Baoshan Cold-rolled & Coated Sheet Products Project, and India Continuous Annealing and Processing Line Project will be positioned under the sector, as well as VSB Project will be established under the sector. Main objectives of the reorganization: Enhance the organizational capability to support the implementation of overseas businesses and projects; Organizational accumulation of management knowledge, skills, and know-how, as well as human resource development related to overseas businesses development; Reinforcement of organizational capability related to regional business strategy functions across each product-based business unit through supporting activities for the individual overseas businesses and projects; and reinforcement of the organizational functions for promoting specific projects.
