Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation engages in steelmaking and steel fabrication businesses worldwide. The company operates in five segments: Steelmaking and Steel Fabrication, Engineering and Construction, Chemicals, New Materials, and System Solutions. It offers steel plates; steel sheets, such as hot-dip coated and electroplated steel sheets, tin plates, and electrical steel sheets; bar and rod materials; and structural steel products. The company also provides pipes and tubes; railway, automotive, and machinery parts, including railway wheels, axles, and bogie trucks, as well as forged products; and titanium products for use in heat exchangers, automobiles, construction materials, consumer products, electric power, and desalination fields. In addition, it provides stainless steel products comprising formed steel, stainless steel foils, clad steel sheets, and nickel products, as well as high corrosion-and heat-resistant alloys, and acid-resistant and alkali-resistant alloys; steel slags; and bridge and roadway products, building steel structure engineering commodities, construction material, and offshore structures. Further, the company develops and operates in the areas of steel production plants, environment, energy, offshore projects, pipelines, and construction; and offers display materials, PWB and package materials, epoxy resins, organic electroluminescence materials, and other functional products. Additionally, it provides chemical mechanical polishing pad conditioners, silicon carbide wafers, silica/alumina spherical products, bonding wires, micro solder balls, and hot isostatic pressing processed materials; pitch-based carbon fibers and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic products; and metal substrates for catalytic converters. The company also offers system solutions in the planning, configuration, operation, and maintenance of IT systems; and supplies electricity, gas, and heat. The company was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

NIPPON STEEL & SUMITOMO METAL CORPORATION (TSE:5401) intends to sell stake in POSCO (KOSE:A005490). NIPPON has decided to sell 1.5 million shares in POSCO. The shares to be sold represent 34.1% of the shares held by NIPPON in POSCO. NIPPON will decide the timing of the sale after taking into consideration market conditions and other factors. After the sale, NIPPON's shareholding ratio for POSCO will be 3.32%. Before making its decision to sell POSCO shares, NIPPON discussed with POSCO a possible partial sale of the cross-shareholdings held by each party in share of the other party.

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation together with Sumitomo Corporation have supplied OCTG (oil country tubular goods) and related service for Statoil Petroleum AS over 30 years throughout the long term relations and strategic partnership. Statoil, NSSMC and SC renewed the Supply of OCTG and Related Services Contract, which will last maximum until 2024.
