The Mineral Mining, Oil and Gas Business segment explores for and produces mineral, oil, and gas. It mines minerals in Kenya and produces oil and gas in Egypt, Tunisia, and Madagascar. The Financial Business segment provides financial services, including stock broking, futures and options broking, mutual funds, insurance-linked investment plans, and corporate financial services and immigration consultancy services, securities margin financing, and money lending in Hong Kong. The company was formerly known as Karl Thomson Holdings Limited and changed its name to Hoifu Energy Group Limited in January 2013. The company was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Hoifu Energy Group Limited is a subsidiary of Triumph Energy Group Limited.

Hoifu Energy Group Limited announced audited consolidated earnings results for the year ended December 31, 2014. For the year, the company reported revenue of HKD 313,127,000 against HKD 562,886,000 a year ago. Loss from operation was HKD 35,748,000 against HKD 20,011,000 a year ago. Loss before taxation was HKD 39,474,000 against HKD 22,268,000 a year ago. Loss for the year attributable to owners of the company was HKD 37,756,000 against HKD 21,471,000 a year ago. Basic loss per share was HKD 0.0249 against HKD 0.0147 a year ago. The significant decrease in overall revenue was mainly attributable to the impact of oversupply of coal in the mainland China and declining coal prices. The decrease in revenue is due to severe situations of the slow recovery of world and China economy, weak domestic demand for the group's main products such as coals. The weak demand gave rise to more intensified market competition which resulted in extra pressure on coal prices and sales were achieved at the expense of leaner margins.
