Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. Announces Establishment of Subsidiary MHI Technologies S.A.E in Egypt

On July 21, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) established the subsidiary MHI Technologies S.A.E (MHI Egypt) in the Egyptian city of New Cairo. In order to strengthen MHI's economic, and industrial relationships with Egypt, which has the population of 90 million, and to serve as a springboard to the substantial African market. The subsidiary was created for new business development and to work flexibly in alliance with Egyptian companies to quickly and accurately meet the needs of the rapidly growing demand of Egypt's infrastructure and industrial base. MHI Egypt has been established through investment from MHI, the MHI Group company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries France S.A.S. (MHIF, headquartered in Paris) that oversees Europe, the Middle East and African regions, and European office Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Europe Ltd. (MHIE, Headquarters: London).

GKN Aerospace Signs Long-Term Agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. for Aero-Engine Casings

GKN Aerospace has signed a long-term agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., to manufacture aero-engine casings for Rolls-Royce Trent engines which will power Airbus A330neo and Boeing 787 aircraft. The LTA will include a term which is longer than typical MHI agreement terms. MHI has indicated this is a reflection of GKN Aerospace's competitiveness and extensive manufacturing expertise. Production will require complex machining and high quality levels due to the critical nature of this component which must sustain the higher overall pressure ratios for these engines. First deliveries will take place early next year.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Chiba Institute of Technology Announce Joint Development of Anti-Explosive Remotely Operated Mobile Robot

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Chiba Institute of Technology have jointly developed the remotely operated "Sakura No. 2 (anti-explosive model)" robot. It that features greatly reduced risk of electrical spark or heat creation that can cause explosions or fire when inflammable gas is present. It is the first mobile robot in Japan that can be remotely operated either wirelessly or by wire. Applications and demand will be developed for safe and efficient data collection, inspection and light work in environments that require equipment to be anti-explosive such as tunnel accidents and petrochemical plants. The robot is based on the "Sakura No. 2" robot developed by CIT that has built up experience in applications such as accident resolution support activities in nuclear power plants, and the advanced anti-explosive design has been realized by utilizing MHI's broad technical capabilities in industrial fields. It received outsourcing support and assistance from the "Project to develop systems to handle the social challenges of infrastructure maintenance management and renewal" of The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). It also passed the anti-explosive model inspection of the Technology Institution of Industrial Safety (TIIS) in Japan. Further, it is planned to obtain anti-explosive certification based on the ATEX Directive that is widely adopted in Europe and around the world. In addition to making efforts to increase the needs from all sides on the occasion of the development of the Sakura No. 2 robot (anti-explosive model), MHI and CIT will strive to further expand applications and reveal potential needs, with initiatives such as developing an anti-explosive robot arm and a self-driving robot.
