Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, through its subsidiaries, owns and operates stock exchanges and futures exchanges, and related clearing houses in Hong Kong. It operates in five segments: Cash, Equity and Financial Derivatives, Commodities, Clearing, and Platform and Infrastructure. The Cash segment covers various equity products traded on the cash market platforms, the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange; sale of market data relating to the products; and other related activities. The Equity and Financial Derivatives segment provides and maintains trading platforms for a range of equity and financial derivative products, such as stock and equity index futures and options, derivative warrants, and callable bull/bear contracts and warrants, as well as other related activities. The Commodities segment operates an exchange for the trading of base metals futures and options contracts in the United Kingdom; and develops and operates commodity trading platform in the Mainland. This segment also comprises the Asia Commodities contracts traded on Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited. The Clearing segment operates clearing houses that are responsible for clearing, settlement, and custodian activities of the company’s exchanges; and clearing and settlement of over-the-counter derivatives contracts. The Platform and Infrastructure segment offers various services that provide users with access to the platform and infrastructure. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited is based in Central, Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited Has Appoints Roland Chai as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer of Clearing Division and Head of Clearing Risk Solutions

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited has appointed Roland Chai as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of its Clearing Division and Head of Clearing Risk Solutions, effective June 19, 2017. He reports to Calvin Tai, HKEX's Joint Chief Operating Officer and Head of Clearing. Clearing Division COO and Head of Risk Solutions are new positions that reflect HKEX's commitment to be the risk management centre for China-related assets. Mr. Chai has worked in various exchanges, clearing houses, financial institutions and consultancies since 1996. Prior to his appointment by HKEX, he was Head of Equities at LCH.Clearnet Ltd.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, China Foreign Exchange Trade System and China Foreign Exchange Trade System Information Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd Announce Establishment of Joint Venture Company for Bond Connect

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited announced that, consequent upon the joint announcement of the People's Bank of China and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on 16 May 2017 about the establishment of mutual bond market access between Hong Kong and Mainland China ("Bond Connect"), HKEX has together with China Foreign Exchange Trade System (National Interbank Funding Center) ("CFETS") and China Foreign Exchange Trade System Information Technology (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. ("CFETS IT"), a wholly owned subsidiary of CFETS, established a joint venture company in Hong Kong ­ Bond Connect Company Limited ("BCCL"). BCCL will support and assist admission and registration for Northbound investors, and liaise closely with the global access platforms through which investors will trade the China Interbank Bond Market instruments. BCCL is owned as to 18% by CFETS, 42% by CFETS IT and 40% by HKEX. The proposed initial equity capital of BCCL is up to HKD 50 million, of which HKEX's contribution will be up to HKD 20 million.
