Huntington Bank to Close Four Area Branches; builds operations center in Akron

Huntington Bank is closing 38 branches in seven states, including four in the Akron area. Two former FirstMerit branches in Akron, one in New Franklin and one in Lakemore are among the branches that will close at the end of September. As part of its merger agreement, Huntington had agreed to employ the same number of people in Akron as at the time of the merger 1,200 within two years. The bank also agreed to build an operations center in Akron.

Huntington Bank to Invest in Michigan

Huntington National Bank announced that it is planning to expand its operations in Flint, Michigan. The firm is investing USD 5.4 million in Flint as part of renovating its Saginaw Street complex. The move will also see the creation of about 60 new jobs.

The Huntington National Bank Inc. Announces Executive Changes

Huntington National Bank has named as new leader for its home market amid wider leadership changes as it merges with Akron's FirstMerit Bank. Jim Kunk, Huntington's longtime regional president overseeing Central Ohio, will retire in mid-2017. He'll be replaced by Sue Zazon, who has led FirstMerit in the market since 2006. Prior to FirstMerit, Zazon served as president of the Central Ohio market for KeyBank from 1993 to 2006. Before that she was as a business banking employee for Huntington for seven years.
