XO Holdings, Inc. Key Developments

XO Communications Launches DDoS Mitigation Service

XO Communications has launched Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Mitigation Service as part of the XO Security Services product portfolio. The XO DDoS Mitigation Service provides customers an essential component of sound security practices recommended by cyber-defense experts to help mitigate crippling network attacks. With XO DDoS Mitigation Service, customers avoid unplanned and potentially exorbitant costs should their network come under a DDoS attack. Deployment of high-performance DDoS mitigation network devices is quite costly resulting in many companies hesitating to dedicate company resources to install the equipment in their networks. To address customer needs, XO is offering its DDoS Mitigation Service with pricing plans that are based on the customer's known circuit bandwidth, making it easy to ensure resources are in place should a DDoS attack occur.

Limelight Networks announced that they have filed a lawsuit in the Eastern District of Virginia against Akamai and XO Communications for infringing six of their patents. The complaint indicates that the patents being infringed cover a broad range of inventions that are critical to the effective and efficient delivery of bytes by a content delivery network. Limelight believes their patents are very strong and this lawsuit will provide significant relief and future protection against any illegal competition. Limelight has retained top IP trial lawyer Matt Powers and his team from Tensegrity Law Group and Maya Eckstein from Hunton & Williams to represent the Company in this litigation.

XO Communications Expands Network in the Salt Lake City Region

XO Communications (XO) has invested nearly $5 million into the Salt Lake City economy by adding nearly 100 office buildings directly onto its advanced communications network in the region. The company is now able to serve over 800 businesses in more than 300 multi-tenant buildings and facilities in the Salt Lake City area with its suite of IP-based Ethernet, voice and network services. The network expansion in the Salt Lake City region is part of a larger strategy XO rolled out in 2014 to invest up to $500 million to grow its network across the nation. XO has completed fiber construction projects into nearly 550 enterprise buildings across 25 regional markets since announcing the initiative last year. In addition to Salt Lake City, direct connections have been completed in buildings in the following regions: Boston, New York City, the Washington, D.C. area, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Southern California, San Francisco, the Pacific Northwest and other urban areas.
