AgResearch Limited Key Developments

AgResearch Confirms Major Job Cuts

AgResearch has confirmed a sweeping restructure resulting in the loss of nearly 80 staff and 51 roles among the Crown research institute's science and technician workforce. It followed the announcement last month that it was proposing to cut 83 jobs across its four sites and create some new roles in areas of Government investment and "growing customer demand". There would be a net reduction of 14 scientist and 37 technician roles in the next financial year - five fewer than in the original proposal. Hardest hit would be staff numbers at the Palmerston, where 38 positions will go, half of them scientists. The Ruakura campus in Hamilton would shed 15 positions - 11 technicians and four scientists - while positions at the Lincoln campus, near Christchurch, would be reduced by 19, 10 of them scientists. At Invermay, six positions would go, while four new ones would be created there, along with six at Ruakura, eight at Grasslands and nine at Lincoln.

AgResearch to Slash 83 Jobs as Part of Proposed Restructure

AgResearch reported to slash 83 jobs as part of the proposed restructure. AgResearch confirmed that it was proposing to 'reduce' its scientist roles by 33 and its science technician roles by 50. The cuts would come in areas where customer demand and the potential for impact was dropping, with the lay-offs to be 'partially offset' by the recruitment of 18 new scientist roles and nine new science technician roles in areas. These new positions would be in areas of 'growing customer demand' and Government investment.
