Romania To Resume Privatization

Romania will resume the privatization process in 2016. Ludwik Sobolewski said the most likely candidate to come to market is Societatea Nationala a Sarii SA while S.P.E.E.H.Hidroelectrica S.A. was an outside possibility, although this was more likely to happen in 2017. "We are waiting for privatizations to be resumed," he said. "2015 passed without anything notable, but it's important for Romania to continue with this because we need to have large companies in the market." SC Fondul Proprietatea SA (BVB:FP) holds sizeable minority stakes in Sarii and Hidroelectrica and backs the listings. In 2015, it identified Compania Nationala "Aeroporturi Bucuresti" S.A. and Compania Nationala "Administratia Porturilor Maritime" S.A. as other potential privatization candidates. He puts the probability of Hidroelectrica's listing in 2016 at around 10%. "There is a chance they could be listed this year it's more likely to happen in 2017. But this would be tremendously important for the market," he said.
