Clayton, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tru-Design and Skidmore Owings and Merrill Partner to Build 3D Printed Concept Home
Oct 5 15
Clayton Homes and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, or ORNL, have partnered with two other companies to design and build a 3D printed concept home. The project titled Additive Manufacturing and Integrated Energy (A.M.I.E.), came to fruition as a partnership among Clayton, ORNL, Tru-Design and Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM). SOM designed the concept home, Tru-Design pre-assembled and coated the structure, ORNL printed it and Clayton assembled all of the pieces together. The four organizations came together to produce a 200-square-foot concept home that includes compatibility with a 3D printed car that allows the home and car to transmit electricity between each other wirelessly.
Mellanox to Develop New Open-Source Network Communication Framework
Jul 23 15
Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. has announced a collaboration with the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, or ORNL, IBM, the University of Tennessee, NVIDIA, and high-performance computing, or HPC, industry leaders, laboratories and academia to develop a new open-source network communication framework for high-performance and data-centric applications. Traditionally there have been three popular mainstream communication frameworks to support various interconnect technologies and programming languages: MXM, developed by Mellanox Technologies; PAMI, developed by IBM; and UCCS, developed by ORNL, the University of Houston, and the University of Tennessee. UCX will unify the strengths and capabilities of each of these communication libraries and optimize them into one unified communication framework that delivers essential building blocks for the development of a high-performance communication ecosystem.
