Advantech Co., Ltd. and 6WIND Announce Opening of Remote NFV Portal
Aug 29 15
Advantech Co. Ltd. and 6WIND announced the opening of 6WIND's remote Network Function Virtualization, or NFV, portal, a new service for telecom operators, integrators and virtual network function, or VNFs. The portal aims at simplifying access to a broad range of highly scalable NFV platforms where the performance of 6WIND Virtual Accelerator and Turbo Appliances, plus third-party VNFs, can be rapidly evaluated, and where interoperability between VNFs can be successfully validated. The initiative is also intended to encourage collaboration between VNF vendors, NFV middleware providers such as 6WIND, OpenStack vendors, and platform providers such as Advantech to stimulate further innovation, to speed wider adoption and faster deployment of NFV-related technologies. The integration of 6WIND Virtual Accelerator and OpenStack software on top of Advantech's scalable range of compute and networking hardware into NFV platforms provides a remotely accessible framework that allows users to verify if they can reach the performance necessary in various service chaining scenarios on a particular server platform. In addition, operators can rapidly verify if a specific platform gives them the manageability, scalability and carrier grade resiliency they require for NFV deployments. Available immediately for testing within the NFV portal in Advantech's Remote Evaluation Lab, 6WIND Virtual Accelerator delivers accelerated virtual switching and networking features which enable high bandwidth to any VNF that supports standard Virtio drivers. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator runs within the hypervisor domain and is provided as a simple software package managed by OpenStack without any modifications to existing software infrastructure. 6WIND's Turbo Router and Turbo IPsec software appliances are also available for testing in the portal, and can be integrated with 6WIND Virtual Accelerator and third-party VNFs.
6WIND Announces Partnership with EZchip Semiconductor Ltd. to Build High Performance Routing Platform
Feb 17 15
6WIND announced its partnership with EZchip Semiconductor Ltd. and NGI SpA to build a high performance routing platform. NGI delivers ultra-broadband wireless Internet access via 'EOLO', its wholly owned wireless network, and was in need of industry-proven innovative technology for its next-generation network architecture. NGI selected 6WINDGate packet processing software and EZchip's TILE-Gx multicore processors (from EZchip's recent acquisition of Tilera) to build a custom Software-Defined Network (SDN) appliance, which will enable quick delivery of Internet access to its customers. Building a Software-defined Nationwide Wireless Network. To ensure continuous growth and scalability to its 'EOLO' wireless network, NGI decided to engineer an SDN appliance, tailor-made to its own requirements. This technology will also enable the company to expand its network to four new Italian regions that are lagging behind the EU schedule for broadband Internet availability. NGI plans to deploy an SDN appliance at each of the existing radio towers spread across Northern and Central Italy, while thousands of new towers will continue to be built over the coming years. NGI selected EZchip's TILE-Gx 72-core processors and 6WINDGate packet processing software to reduce the time to market in building its high quality network by providing ready-to-use networking software with the right feature set and performance, including data, control and management planes.
6WIND Launches Turbo Router and Turbo Ipsec Software Appliances
Jan 28 15
6WIND announced two new software appliances in its Speed Series family: Turbo Router and Turbo IPsec. Based on 6WINDGate packet processing software, which is deployed in Tier 1 networks worldwide, Turbo Router and Turbo IPsec can be installed quickly onto standard x86 servers within bare metal and virtual machine (VM) environments. The new Speed Series Turbo Appliances are designed to benefit Service Providers, Cloud and Content Providers and Enterprises with the best price/performance ratios when transitioning from hardware to software based appliances for flexibility, efficiency and cost savings. Compared to competing software routers, 6WIND's Turbo Router can deliver up to twice the performance at 1/4 the price. Compared to hardware-based IPsec Gateways, 6WIND's Turbo IPsec can save 80% of the cost per gigabit of IPsec throughput.
