Abaco Systems Announces Availability of DDC-I's Deos DO-178 Certifiable Operating System for FORCE2 Rugged Mission Ready Display Computer

Abaco Systems announced that the DO-178 safety certifiable operating system Deos™ from DDC-I is now available for Abaco's DO-254 certifiable mission ready FORCE2 rugged display computer, as well as the SBC314 single board computer. Deos is certifiable to DO-178 Design Assurance Level A (DAL A). With programs looking to leverage the time and cost benefits of COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) hardware and software products for safety certification, while COTS vendors seek program-specific funding to enable them to provide those benefits, Abaco has broken the deadlock by making a forward-looking upfront investment in developing the artifacts necessary to achieve DAL A DO-254 certification, considerably reducing the customer burden. Deos is a field-proven, safety critical, in-flight, avionics RTOS that hosts a multitude of flight critical functions, such as air data computers, air data inertial reference units, cockpit video, displays and flight instrumentation, flight management systems, and engine management. Built from the ground up for safety critical applications, Deos has been certified to DO-178 DAL A since 1998, and is the only certifiable time- and space-partitioned COTS RTOS that has been created using RTCA DO-178, Level A processes from the first day of its product development. Deos features deterministic real-time response as well as time and space partitioning. Deos also features patented slack scheduling, which enables it to deliver higher CPU utilization than any other certifiable safety critical COTS RTOS. The company mission ready FORCE2 rugged display computer features a 3U VPX single board computer which offers a choice of either the Qualcomm (formerly NXP/Freescale) QorIQ™ T2081 1.8GHz high performance processor or the T1042 1.4GHz low power processor, supported by up to 8 GBytes of memory. It also includes AMD Radeon™ 8860 or coreAVI E8860 graphics processing units. As well as its support for the Deos operating system it also features specially developed drivers/APIs meaning that applications developed on FORCE2 will be conformant with the FACE initiative.
Abaco Systems Introduces Innovative MMS8010 Micro Mezzanine System™ Rugged 3U VPX Carrier Card and MMS6245 XMC Carrier Card

Abaco Systems introduced the innovative MMS8010 Micro Mezzanine System™ rugged 3U VPX carrier card and MMS6245 XMC carrier card. They are designed to enable customers to achieve ultimate flexibility in configuring the broad range of mixed signal I/O typically required for advanced embedded systems while minimizing chassis slot occupancy, and thus minimizing the size, weight and power of the deployed system. Both new products, which significantly strengthen Abaco's mission ready systems capability, can also eliminate the need to develop custom I/O solutions, reducing cost, risk and time to deployment. Abaco'spatented MMS system can deliver a broad range of serial protocols, digital I/O, audio and analog interfaces via an extensive choice of Electrical Conversion Modules (ECMs). Up to six ECMs can be mounted on the MMS8010 3U VPX carrier, while the MMS6245 XMC can host up to four ECMs. ECMs can also be mounted on PMCs, such as the MMS5918, giving significant flexibility in configuring the optimum solution for almost any system. A typically challenging application requirement such as a modern radar DSP subsystem, with its requirement for the fastest analog and FPGA technology, may also require mixed I/O functions such as four serial channels, two analog measurement channels and 16 digital channels. Prior to the launch of the MMS8010 and MMS6245, this would have required either several cards to be configured, using precious chassis slots, or a custom solution to be developed – requiring the investment of time and money. The MMS8010 is a 3U VPX COTS solution that is readily deliverable, at lower cost and that will enhance the characteristics of the deployed system. The MMS6245 offers the same benefits in the XMC form factor and allows I/O to be brought very close to the CPU when combined with a single board computer. The MMS8010 is offered in both a VITA 48.1 air-cooled configuration as well as a VITA 48.2 conduction cooled configuration, allowing customers to easily move from development to deployment with a common set of hardware. The MMS6245 is available as a convection cooled solution. The MMS8010 is VITA 65 compliant and maps the 96 user-configurable pins to VPX backplane signals. The MMS6245 is VITA 42.3 compliant and maps the 64 user-configurable pins to the front panel via a 68-pin SCSI style connector. Both come pre-loaded with a default FPGA image compiled in Quartus Prime from Altera® with Qsys providing the interconnection between the Avalon bus IP components within the FPGA. The FPGA is effectively the engine for the carrier, orchestrating processing and I/O functions for the installed ECMs.
Abaco Systems Announces NETernity SWE440 3U VPX 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet Switch

Abaco Systems announced the NETernity SWE440 3U VPX 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet switch. The SWE440 provides an Ethernet-based system interconnect that allows single board computers, digital signal processors, graphics cards, sensor I/O cards and others to pass data at multi-Gigabit speeds, enabling the creation of true HPEC (high performance embedded computing) solutions in the 3U VPX form factor. Customers will deploy SWE440-enabled systems for next generation situational awareness and surveillance, electronic warfare and radar/sonar or any application requiring low latency, high speed data transfers. By using advanced system-on-chip (SoC) technology, the SWE440 consumes minimal power 40 watts or less. It also offers a wide range of data plane and control plane port configuration choices to match customers' preferred OpenVPX implementation. The SWE440 supports up to eight 40 Gigabit Ethernet ports or up to 32 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports or combinations of the two. The new switch benefits from Abaco's OpenWare switch management software. Developed by Abaco's Networking Innovation Center, Openware is based on open industry standards and provides customers with significant flexibility for customization, together with extensive security features including denial of service attack prevention, user password mechanisms with multiple levels of security and military level authorization schemes including 802.1X and sanitization. It also provides a broad range of network protocol support for Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality, including Layer 3 forwarding which provides dynamic routing with standard routing protocols essential for customers with complex networks. Optional front panel ports on the SWE440 enables its use in lab environments to aid customers during their qualification phase, simplifying and minimizing the transition from development to deployment while reducing cost. The SWE440, which provides a straightforward upgrade path for current 3U VPX switches such as Abaco's GBX410, is available in five air-cooled and rugged conduction-cooled versions.
