Shareholder Files Suit against VW in Chattanoogae

A Volkswagen Chattanooga shareholder has filed a lawsuit in Chattanooga against the company over losses sustained when VW's share price plummeted after regulators said the carmaker improperly used defeat devices on diesel engine controls to get around emission standards. The suit, filed in federal court in Chattanooga by attorneys for Knoxville resident Michael Wolfenbarger, claims VW made numerous deliberately false and misleading statements and omissions to investors concerning the business prospects and financial success of its line of diesel vehicles. Volkswagen failed to disclose the truth that the vehicles only achieved results through the use of software to evade emissions testing. The suit, which seeks class action status, charged that Wolfenbarger and others purchased VW shares at artificially inflated prices. It seeks an unspecified amount of damages.
