The National League of Cities appointed Irma Esparza Diggs as senior executive and director of the organization's federal advocacy. In her role, Diggs will assist in developing the company's federal policy priorities and will serve as the lead advocate of the nation's 19,000 cities with Congress and the administration. Diggs brings more than 20 years of experience working in the public and nonprofit sectors with a focus on grassroots, campaigns and issue advocacy. Diggs most recently served as chief of staff in the Department of Education's Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs, where she helped advance the department's legislative priorities. Her municipal experience includes service as chief of staff to a Washington, D.C., councilmember. She also has extensive experience in local grassroots advocacy efforts, including as a political action representative for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
National League of Cities Names Mayor Craig Thurmond to the Board of Directors

Mayor Craig Thurmond was elected to serve another term on the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors at the recent City Summit held in Pittsburgh, Penn. Thurmond, who will serve a one-year term, will play a key role in guiding the nation 's largest and most representative membership and advocacy organization for city officials. Over the next year, Thurmond will participate in several Board of Directors meetings at NLC convening's in Washington D.C., and across the nation. In his role on the Board, Thurmond will help guide NLC's strategic direction and set the organization's advocacy priorities and operational goals. Board members are selected by a 15-member nominating committee, and are confirmed by a vote by NLC's membership.

National League of Cities named its 2016 leadership and board of directors at the annual Congress of Cities and Exposition in Nashville, Tenn. The membership elected Joplin, Mo. Councilmember and former Mayor Melodee Colbert-Kean to serve as the company’s 2016 president, Councilmember Matt Zone of Cleveland, Ohio as first vice president and Little Rock, Ark. Mayor Mark Stodola as second vice president. All officers are selected by nominating committee and are elected by the company’s membership to serve a one-year term. The company’s 2015 president, Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker, will serve as the organization's immediate past president.
