UNICOM Systems, Inc. has released solidDB v. 101, the latest version of the powerful, portable in-memory relational database the company acquired from IBM in 2014. solidDB v. 101 includes new features that provide enhanced support for Internet of Things (IoT) applications including a fast, reliable, unintrusive way of replicating data between multiple IoT appliances. New support for geohashing allows IoT and mobile applications to process geo location data faster. • solidDB’s new advanced approach to replicating data between multiple database nodes enhances horizontal scalability and allows for faster data collection by multiple IoT appliances. The new replication capability (called CREP) allows for a multi-node, asynchronously replicating system of multiple databases that can be configured to be bi-directional, with full conflict resolution. The system uses log-based replication to ensure that it does not consume excessive CPU or network resources, while replicating all rows written to a single solidDB instance to all replication targets. This allows for replication to happen in the background without impacting normal database performance. Based on the principle of ‘maintenance free operation’, CREP avoids error situations and eliminates the need for administrator intervention. This architectural approach enables multiple replication topologies for disaster recovery, multiple replica databases and many other use cases. The new Geohash function provides the capability to calculate a one-dimensional hash value from a multidimensional set of coordinates. The benefit of creating an index based on the geohash value provides more selective queries based on that index, rather than on a coordinate-based index with multiple dimensions. This increases efficiency and enables mobile or IoT applications to process location information faster, as Jarmo Ruuth explains: Using geohashing allows applications to quickly pinpoint the location of mobile phones or other devices. This is useful for organizations that want to target specific marketing offers or promotions to mobile users while they are at a particular location, for example. It could also be used by a mobile network operator to send emergency notifications to users within a specific geographical area, perhaps to warn them in the event of a terror threat. The ability to react immediately is essential when are sending thousands or even millions of time-critical messages. A new REST API for solidDB v.101 opens up a new world of capabilities for storing and retrieving data, especially for IoT solutions. The API enables access to the solidDB SQL interface from any language that supports the HTTP (and HTTPS) protocol. This extends the access from current ODBC and JDBC interfaces to virtually any modern programming language where HTTP connections are widely used. For enhanced security, a new certificate-based authentication feature has also been added. The client credentials are stored in an encrypted file, which can also contain other information, such as client IP-address and client executable, to limit user access; this new feature can be used with all communication protocols. The new solidDB dashboard now provides a simple, at-a-glance view for monitoring server performance, including example monitoring views. There is also the option for users to add their own new sets of performance monitoring (pmon) data collections.

UNICOM Systems, Inc. has announced a new release of the UNICOMÂ® Multichannel Bank Transformation Toolkit, which was acquired from IBM Corporation in March 2016. New features have been added to enhance performance and usability, as well as support for Docker Containers to allow faster, easier deployment of applications both in cloud environments and on premises. The UNICOM Multichannel Bank Transformation Toolkit (BTT), available from the UNICOM Systems TeamBLUE(TM) organization, delivers faster application development and an improved runtime infrastructure for banks, based on IBM WebSphereÂ® Application Server. BTT helps businesses deliver targeted multichannel marketing campaigns and provides prebuilt solution templates for rapid delivery of high-volume mobile and internet banking applications. The new release, UNICOM Multichannel Bank Transformation Toolkit 8.2.1, now runs on WebSphere Liberty (184.108.40.206) and also on Liberty in a Docker container. Packaging the software and runtime environment in a Docker container ensures that it will run reliably on any platform and makes deployment fast, secure and lightweight. New features that support performance improvements for application developers include a new browser side caching service for widgets, and a new data service that leverages the WebSphere DynaCache service to store or access cached data across multiple server nodes. New features that improve usability for application developers include a new dynamic business process flow component - this saves time for flow designers by allowing business process steps to be reused. Complex processes (such as an error handling flow) or simple components (such as a popup page) can be inserted at any point in a flow. This frees designers from recreating repetitive tasks and allows them to focus on the important parts of their flow design. Calendar enhancements - new global functions support calendar type data objects for web services in order to ensure more accurate time representation. Reduced page loading time - a new do nothing transition in the transaction editor improves AJAX flow support and ensures that only data is refreshed, rather than requiring a complete server-side re-rendering of the page, for faster page loading. Extended business logic - a new feature allowing an optional action to be launched by the server after the final state following execution of a workflow gives designers the capability to create more complex business logic. In addition to its ongoing commitment to releasing new features and functionality to support application development in retail banking, UNICOM Systems plans to extend the toolkit to meet the needs of customers operating in other markets.

UNICOM Systems, Inc. has released System Architect® 220.127.116.11, which includes a new product – SA-FP Gadget Dashboard, as an enhancement to SA XT (System Architect eXtended Team, its web version). Enterprise Architecture analysis reports are served up live as open social gadgets in a pure web interface that utilizes Focal Point technology. Pivot tables enable end users to query the architecture without needing to know any of the underlying metamodel concepts such as ArchiMate®, TOGAF®, or DoDAF – to get authoritative information on the business and its underlying systems. A large array of out-of-box reports and gadget templates are provided, such as pie charts, bar charts, and roadmaps using Data Driven Documents (D3.js) technology. Users have the option to experience the comprehensive Focal Point Solution by invoking it with a paid license. At that point the dashboards from SA become mashed up with the portfolio analysis dashboards of Focal Point. The tools also feature a data-driven and Open Services Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) integration – so that EA data can be mapped to Focal Point for decision analysis, and results mapped back to SA to run analytics on the architecture, with traceability between the two.
