MLS In Merger Talks With USISL

Major League Soccer, LLC (MLS) and USISL, Inc. (United Soccer League) may merge. The two firms are in talk for the same. Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. Chief Executive Officer, Butch Spyridon, a member of the Nashville MLS Organizing Committee, confirmed recently that the groups have held discussions about a potential deal. It is unclear if a deal would be structured as a buyout of the minor-league effort or as more of a merger. He said, “Personally, I would say to (the two groups), 'You've got to get this done. It's in everybody's best interest.” Clint Brewer, a spokesperson for the ownership group making the MLS bid, said the two sides are continuing toward their common goal of bring an MLS franchise to the city. DMD Soccer, LLC Chief Executive Officer, Court Jeske declined to comment on this story while employees of the firm did not respond to multiple requests for comment, the news report stated.

McDermott Joins Major League Soccer as Chief Business Officer

The Philadelphia Union announced McDermott, who had served as chief marketing and innovation officer for the Philadelphia 76ers since December 2013, has joined the Major League Soccer franchise as the club's chief business officer. McDermott, who was also previously chief marketing officer for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Capitals, will be responsible for overseeing the team's business operations -including working closely with the Union's new USL team, Bethlehem Steel FC, and the Philadelphia Union Academy.
