SAE International Key Developments

SAE International Names Nand Kochhar as Vice Chair of Technical Standards Board

SAE International announced that Nand Kochhar, Global Safety Systems Chief Engineer for Ford, has been named the Vice Chair of Technical Standards Board (TSB). Kochhar will serve as TSB Vice Chair beginning Jan. 1, 2017; he will then become TSB Chair on January 1, 2018 and serve a two-year tenure. In his role with Ford, Kochhar is responsible for delivering vehicle safety performance of all Ford and Lincoln brand products globally. He is also Executive Technical Leader, CAE and a member of Ford’s Technology Advisory Board. He has been a longtime supporter of SAE International and served as Chairman of SAE Motor Vehicle Council for 2015-16 terms.

ISO and SAE International Announce Agreement to Develop Technical Standards for Road Vehicles and Intelligent Vehicle Systems

ISO and SAE International have announced a pilot agreement for the joint development of new technical standards and harmonization of existing standards. The new Partnership Standards Development Organization (PSDO) cooperation agreement will apply in two areas, Road Vehicles (ISO TC22) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ISO TC204). Standards highlighted for joint development include those related to wireless charging, vehicle interoperability, automated vehicle level definition, and automotive cyber security, and their development will consider both SAE and ISO processes for balloting and approval. In addition, the standards developed will benefit from the combined expertise of ISO and SAE, and optimize stakeholder resources, making the standards more effective and relevant to the market.

SAE International Names Landon Sproull as Commercial Vehicle Sector Vice President Nominee

SAE International's Executive Nominating Committee has named PACCAR Vice President Landon Sproull as Commercial Vehicle Sector Vice President Nominee, a term which runs from 2017-2020. As SAE International's Vice President of Commercial Vehicle, Sproull will be responsible for providing leadership and continuity for the Society's commercial vehicle initiative and for integrating the needs of the industry in SAE International's standards, events and educational programs. SAE International also elects vice presidents for its aerospace and automotive sectors. In his current position with PACCAR, Sproull is responsible for powertrain strategic planning including global development, validation and compliance and the PACCAR Technical Center. Prior to this, he was Chief Engineer at Peterbilt for 10 years. He joined PACCAR in 1988 as a design engineer in Nashville, Tennessee. Sproull's nomination will go to an SAE International member vote in November 2016. If elected, he will begin his four-year term in January 2017.
