S.T. Wooten Corporation Key Developments

NCDOT Awards $30 Million for Major Greenville Road Project to S.T. Wooten Corporation

The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $30.1 million contract to S.T. Wooten Corporation of Wilson to make structural and traffic signal improvements to 1.4 miles of the Connector. The project will convert the Connector into a four-lane divided road with a landscaped median that will directly connect Memorial Drive with 10th Street at Evans Street. The project will also include the construction of a bridge over the railroad tracks at Dickinson Avenue and the construction of multimodal facilities such as bike lanes, sidewalks and transit stops along the entire length of the corridor. One of the most visible improvements to Stantonsburg Road will be the upgrading of traffic signals- from existing wire supported signals to those supported by steel poles with mast arms, or steel strain poles, which are stronger and fare much better in severe weather than traditional wooden poles. The Stantonsburg Road project will also create a direct connection between Vidant Medical Center and the East Carolina Medical and Allied Health Schools, which are located beside Vidant. The project includes drainage work and grading, which improves safety by leveling off shoulders adjacent to the road, providing motorists with a smoother ride as well as a refuge in case of an emergency. Work on this project is scheduled to begin as soon as Sept. 28, and is scheduled to be completed by May 14, 2019.
