Saint John Airport Inc. Key Developments

Canada's Airports Can Be Up For Sale

Canada's airports including those in New Brunswick could soon be up for sale as the upcoming federal budget is expected to raise the possibility of unloading them to private investors. Derrick Stanford, Saint John Airport Chief Executive Officer, says the potential move was a hot topic at a recent meeting of Canadian airport heads, although adding that the country's smaller airports appear well down the list of targets. Meanwhile, Ben Dachis, associate Director of research at the C.D. Howe Institute, says the sale of Greater Moncton International Airport Authority Inc may appear more attractive than others as it is already operated by a private airport management company. The province's three international airports Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton International Airport Authority Inc., along with its two ports in Saint John and Belledune - were included in studies commissioned last fall by the Trudeau government. Consultants have been hired to examine the possibility of selling off the federally owned infrastructure to private investors, which could yield new money to fund federal spending plans.
