Linbeck Group Begins Construction on Houston SPCA Expansion

Linbeck Group has begun a major expansion of Houston SPCA's campus located at 900 Portway Drive. The addition of three new buildings - a main building for animal adoptions and wildlife rehabilitation, a training facility, and large animal arena - are expected to be completed in October 2017. To maintain the 16-month construction schedule and mitigate issues before they arise, Linbeck has implemented a combination of technologies and Lean Construction techniques.

Linbeck Group Wins Construction Management Contracts by Yes Prep Public School System and KIPP Houston Public Schools

Linbeck Group announced that it was awarded construction management contracts by YES Prep Public School System and KIPP Houston Public Schools to add new campuses in the city's most underserved communities. YES Prep is expanding its footprint with two campus locations in east and north Houston. With an estimated project budget of $9 million each, the two campuses will serve grades six through 12 and will include classrooms, gym and locker room facilities and administrative offices. The addition of these locations will mark 14 YES schools to be completed by Linbeck. Most recently, the construction firm completed a conversion of the former Levitz Furniture Store into YES Prep Southside. Serving the communities of South Houston and Pasadena, construction on the new KIPP Southeast (8805 Ferndale) campus is now underway. KIPP Climb Academy (to serve PreK 3-4th grade children) and KIPP Prime College Preparatory (for grades 5-8) will open in August 2016 following an extensive building and site renovation. The estimated project budget is $12.3 million. KIPP's Southeast campus is located on a 7.7-acre site with an existing 98,870-square-foot warehouse. The building will undergo complete demolition of interior partitions, doors, ceilings, light and plumbing fixtures. New construction includes roof replacement with skylights, leveling and foundation repair of existing concrete floors, security and data systems, upgraded sprinkler systems, and acrylic, waterproof coating on exterior walls. Custom separate modular buildings will house a cafeteria, storage and additional classroom space for each school. Other campus upgrades include security gates and fencing, walkway canopies, and the removal of asphalt to add green playfields and a playground. Linbeck has built more than 2.2 million square feet of charter schools including 60 KIPP projects. The construction firm previously built KIPP Unity Primary School and is nearing completion on KIPP Academy West Middle School.

Linbeck Group Receives Notice to Proceed on $37.5 Million Phase One Academic Building Complex

Linbeck Group received notice to proceed on phase one of an academic complex at Texas A&M University at Galveston. With a $37.5 million price tag, the first phase is scheduled to start in November and is expected to be completed in 396 days. Prominently located at the main entrance of Texas A&M University at Galveston (200 Seawolf Parkway), the new academic complex is ideally situated to provide an iconic welcome to visitors, prospective students and guests upon arrival to the island institution. Anchoring the campus quadrangle, the multi-purpose, four-story facility will feature 85,710 gross square feet of academic classrooms, computer labs, a one-stop-hub for enrollment services, faculty and administrative offices as well as shared lobby space for exhibitions. A multi-purpose conference room plus informal gathering and learning spaces are a complement to the adjacent student success center. The exterior facade consisting of polished concrete masonry units and architectural metal panels will feature aluminum-framed, hurricane-rated glass curtain walls to provide an abundance of natural light.
